Yamaha Continues Collecting Awards with the New F2.5
By Ted Lund
One of the world’s leading manufacturers of reliable four-stroke outboard motors — best known for producing some of the highest horsepower engines for single- and multi-engine installations — is being recognized for its contributions to the sailing, dinghy, and runabout world thanks to its innovative new F2.5.
The diminutive outboard was recently recognized by Boating Industry magazine as one of its top products for 2016, beating out hundreds of other candidates. It was the third time in the publications history that it has released its Top Products list. The list can be found online as well as in the May print edition of Boating Industry.
“This year’s selections were chosen from hundreds of products introduced or significantly updated since the beginning of 2015,” according to Boating Industry editor-in-chief Jonathan Sweet. “Honorees were selected for their innovation, their impact on the industry, creativity and more.”
Yamaha’s Marine Group was thrilled with the honor.
“We are so pleased to have the F2.5 recognized amongst Boating Industry’s Top Products for 2016,” said Dale Barnes, Division Manager, Marketing, Yamaha Marine Group. “With the C.A.R.B. certification, Yamaha’s new F2.5 is now available to boaters in all 50 states.”
The small, tiller powered engine is cleaner and more efficient than its predecessor or competitors, and its also easier to store, handle and use, thanks to several important design changes.
Yamaha’s F2.5 is now certified with three stars from the California Environmental Protection Agency Air Resources Board (C.A.R.B.) for “ultra-low emissions,” due to internal improvements making combustion cleaner and more efficient — and friendlier for the environment.
The innovations that helped earn this stringent rating for the new Yamaha F2.5 include a new intake manifold, new combustion chamber design, a four-degree cylinder offset, an enlarged water jacket for more consistent engine temperature control and a two-stage exhaust gas recirculation system.
A newly engineered ergonomic carrying handle makes the F2.5 easier to transport and can also be used for assistance in steering when in reverse. Thanks to a new oil leak prevention system which allows the outboard to lie flat on one of three sides or stored vertically, it can be stored virtually anywhere.
Yamaha Marine products are marketed throughout the United States and around the world. Yamaha Marine Group, based in Kennesaw, Ga., supports its 2,000 U.S. dealers and boat builders with marketing, training and parts for Yamaha’s full line of products and strives to be the industry leader in reliability, technology, and customer service.
