Ponte Vedra Beach, FL- The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall proudly presents Janis Ian & Tom Paxton live on Thursday, April 9, 2015. Tickets go on sale to the public this Friday, August 29 at 10 a.m.

Who are the great songwriters in America today? Not the most popular, not the richest. Simply the greats. Ask any student of the form and Janis Ian will be counted among them. The writer of “Jesse”, a song recorded by so many others that few remember Ian wrote it; “Stars,” possibly the best song ever written about the life of a performer; and the seminal “At Seventeen”, a song that brought her five Grammy nominations. Ian began her mostly stellar, sometimes stormy, professional life at the age of 12 when she wrote her first song and was published by Broadside Magazine. That led to her first “real” show, at New York’s venerable Village Gate, where she shared a stage with Tom Paxton, Lou Gossett Jr., Judy Collins, Phil Ochs, and a host of other singer-songwriters. “At Seventeen” became her trademark song and, along with the album on which it debuted, ‘Between the Lines’, it earned five Grammy nominations and two wins including Best Pop Female Performance and Best Engineered Recording. The song has since joined “Society’s Child” as inductees in the Grammy Hall of Fame. In her fifth decade of writing songs and performing, Ian won her second Grammy Award of nine total nominations over the years in eight categories. Her 2013 Grammy, presented at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, is for Best Spoken Word Album for her audio book “Society’s Child”.

Tom Paxton has become a voice of his generation, addressing issues of injustice and inhumanity, laying bare the absurdities of modern culture, and celebrating the tenderest bonds of family, friends, and community. Paxton has been an integral part of the songwriting and folk music community since the early 60s Greenwich Village scene, and continues to be a primary influence on today’s “New Folk” performers. Paxton’s place in folk music is secured not just by hit records and awards, but by the admiration of three generations of fellow musicians. An internationally recognized and loved cultural figure, he has always chosen goodwill over commercial success. His generosity has taken shape through gestures like performing a benefit concert performance for a little girl fighting leukemia and writing a personal note of encouragement to an up-and-coming songwriter. This is the man who wrote and lives the words, “Peace will come, and let it begin with me.” He is one of the great songwriters of the last century and will be reckoned as one of the greats in this century, as well.

Tickets for this seated show will go on sale this Friday, August 29 at 10 a.m.. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and St. Augustine Amphitheatre Box Offices, all Ticketmaster outlets or by phone at (800)745-3000.

Mythica on a Fracking Tour at Noble energy

Mythica Blog: What the Frack is going on!?!?!

Recently I was invited by a friend of mine who is a photographer for the oil and gas industry to go on a tour of a Colorado local energy company, Noble Energy. I went because I am the idiot who likes to hear both sides of a story. I'd also prefer to know something first hand than hearsay. So I went to learn about Fracking. I went on this tour with the same basic knowledge that most of the people I know have about Fracking. 1. Fracking is … [Read More its Good for You...]

Captive is Captive No Matter How You Look at It

Captive is Captive No Matter How You Look at It ~ Samantha Lewis When it comes to the saving of a species – whether that be plantlife or wildlife – obstacles arise around every corner. For every no-kill shelter opened, five more dolphins seem to die in a net somewhere. For every person who helps in the courts bring down the ‘bad guys’ who kill the Black Rhino for a horn, or the Great White for some ridiculous million-dollar soup, there seems to … [Read More its Good for You...]
