Tiger Woods Opts Out of U.S. Open, Quicken Loans

By Burt Carey

Tiger Woods isn’t ready to stage a comeback just yet.

The 14-time major champion sent messages via Twitter and his website Tuesday that he would not be competing at either the U.S. Open at Oakmont next week or the PGA Tour’s Quicken Loans tournament the following week.

Tiger Woods, U.S. Open, Quicken Loans National, Golf“While I continue to work hard on getting healthy, I am not physically ready to play in this year’s U.S. Open and the Quicken Loans National,” Woods wrote on his website. “I am making progress, but I’m not yet ready for tournament competition.”

“I haven’t set any date for when I’m playing again, which is frustrating to say,” Woods said in Houston this past April. “But to be honest with you, that’s what I’ve had to do. I’ve had to go with that mindset.”

Woods underwent multiple surgeries and other procedures for his ailing back in the past year. The former world’s No. 1 golfer hasn’t won a major championship since the 2008 U.S. Open, and he only completed two of the last nine majors. He missed the cut in four of them, and injuries prevented him from completing three others.

“I want to thank everyone for their continued support,” Woods penned via the web. “The positive texts, emails and calls I have received have been incredible. I want to wish Mike Davis, Diana Murphy, the USGA, the players and everyone at Oakmont a very successful week.

“I will be hosting and attending my foundation’s tournament, the Quicken Loans National, at Congressional. It’s the 10th year of our tournament, and we continue to support the community, the military and the programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation.”

The announcement didn’t surprise anyone. At a recent press event at Congressional, media members witnessed Woods dropping three consecutive wedge shots into the water, a sure sign that his game is not yet ready for PGA Tour competition.

Unless his recovery moves at a quicker pace, he’s likely to miss the Open Championship at Royal Troon and the PGA Championship at Baltusrol later this year, effectively bypassing the 2016 season. Fans will see him at the Ryder Cup, however, albeit as a vice captain of the U.S. squad.

Faithful Remake of Oscar-Winning Classic Revisits Biblical Themes and Breakneck Chariot Race

Ben-Hur Film Review by Kam Williams Faithful Remake of Oscar-Winning Classic Revisits Biblical Themes and Breakneck Chariot Race It takes a lot of chutzpah to remake the Hollywood epic that won the most Academy Awards in history. But that's just what we have in Ben-Hur, a fairly-faithful version of the 1959 classic starring Charlton Heston. The films are based on Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, a novel published in 1880 which quickly … [Read More its Good for You.....]

Preventing Ethanol Headaches

Preventing Ethanol Headaches By Capt. Gus Cane   Corn was a staple of early settlers, and it’s still a major part of our diet today. But a modern derivative of corn—ethanol—can create havoc in a boat’s fuel system. Fortunately, there are ways to combat the problems caused by ethanol to keep outboards running clean and strong.   Ethanol is a form of alcohol distilled from corn and other natural sources. Congress … [Read More its Good for You...]

Get Ready for Football!

Get Ready for Football! by Amy Lignor   There is a time every year where suddenly the sports news gets far more interesting. No. I’m not talking about the Olympics. Thus far the only thing anyone wants to hear about where Rio is concerned is a virus. What I speak of is that familiar smell of pigskin wafting in the air. The time when the (no offense) more boring sports exit the headlines to make way for the one sport that boasts … [Read More its Good for You...]

Castles in America

Castles in America by Amy Lignor   Robin Leach and his “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” taught us all long ago that we absolutely love to sit and view ridiculous luxury (usually owned by people who inherited all of it and didn’t work a day in their lives). See that? We had to complain about something as we were beguiled by the amount of money people would send to own or create the “best of the best.” Even though some things were … [Read More its Good for You...]

Our Wild “Next-Door” Neighbors

Our Wild “Next-Door” Neighbors by Amy Lignor   The population grows and grows and it’s becoming clear, as new wildlife neighbors arrive on the street, that being able to coexist with nature is far more important than it once was. Wildlife actually supports humankind and when a species becomes extinct, problems for humans ensue. Example: If bumble bees come to an end, you can basically kiss that garden you love “so … [Read More its Good for You...]
