The Art of the Past

The Art of the Past

Texas is a state of history, with ancient settlements, communities, and even caves that offer true works of art from the past.

An incredibly stunning and mysterious locale in Texas is one visitors are amazed by on a daily basis. It is the largest and most varied ‘rock art’ collection in the country. Rock art, for those who do not know, is a series of paintings and carvings made by ancient settlers, leaving behind a piece of history that other generations can learn from.

In the Lower Pecos region of Texas are the White Shaman pictographs. For over five millennia, aboriginal artists dwelling here chose to be the recorders of history. They used the limestone canyons and rock shelter walls of the Pecos region as the canvases to leave behind their story – art that showed all facets of their daily lives. This is a true archaeological find, because this inspiring art is literally a photograph, far before the iPhone came along, of the way settlers actually lived, worked, and survived so long ago. Here, people are educated on subjects ranging from religion to marriage to work, and how a very real settlement once operated.

A myriad of images that make up these recordings are not only the painted kind; included among these are petroglyphs, which are carved or incised images also found in the cave’s walls. With each look, a person learns about life 4,000 years ago, and how cacti and rattlesnakes were the enemies of these hunter-gatherers who believed in their culture as they lived life among impassable canyons.

Delicado Shelter is one of over three-hundred caves in the region known for paintings of everything from human figures to desert animals. And with each study, today’s 21st century world gains more and more insight into these ancient residents and their spiritual world.

As complex as learning an ancient language, these are mysteries that cannot be ignored. And Texas has continued to protect and preserve these wonders so we can ‘meet’ the persons responsible for building the foundation of the present we enjoy, and the future we all look forward to.

Vintage Brosnan in Serpentine Spy Thriller

The November Man DVD Review by Kam Williams Vintage Brosnan in Serpentine Spy Thriller   Director Roger Donaldson is probably most closely associated with No Way Out, one of the best espionage thrillers ever made. The accomplished Australian revisits the genre with The November Man, though this picture pales in comparison to his ingenious, 1987 classic. Nevertheless, Roger has crafted another labyrinthine, cat-and-mouse … [Read More its Good for You.....]

Mythica Post: Are You All Alone?

Recently I made a discovery that the reason it feels that I have been swimming against the current all by myself trying to figure out what’s wrong is because I am in a vast sea of people who are all around me thinking the same thing. Haven’t you felt it too? Some strange inertia holding you back from that next realization that will give you the breakthrough financially? in your relationship, in your self worth and value? in meaningful work? … [Read More its Good For You...]

Winter Boating Tips ARE YOU A YEAR-ROUND BOATER?

Winter Boating Tips ARE YOU A YEAR-ROUND BOATER? IF SO, THEN YOU SHOULD READ THIS. It was January 2, and a snowstorm had just passed through central New Jersey. The temperatures were in the teens, and the wind was blowing so the wind chill was pushing zero. The marina was empty except for four boats still floating in their slips, and all four just happened to be Yamaha-powered center consoles in the 24-to-32-foot range. Without … [Read More its Good for You...]

Mythica on a Fracking Tour at Noble energy

Mythica Blog: What the Frack is going on!?!?!

Recently I was invited by a friend of mine who is a photographer for the oil and gas industry to go on a tour of a Colorado local energy company, Noble Energy. I went because I am the idiot who likes to hear both sides of a story. I'd also prefer to know something first hand than hearsay. So I went to learn about Fracking. I went on this tour with the same basic knowledge that most of the people I know have about Fracking. 1. Fracking is … [Read More its Good for You...]

The Green of Dumbledore

The Green of Dumbledore ~ Samantha Lewis There are magicians and illusionists out there that can head to a stage or occur in a writer’s imagination. Yet the more our present-day world continues forward, the things we once thought were magic are now becoming far more of a reality. It is a fact that the ‘greening’ of our earth has been walking the line between reality and magic for more than a decade; with new solutions to old problems now … [Read More its Good for You...]
