“Masters in Health Care” recently posted some hugely frightening statistics that would make a person – especially a person with an elder they are caring for in their home – pass out from fear. Two of the absolute most shocking statistics are that, more than 30% of all nursing homes experience some form of resident abuse. This can come from all areas including malnutrition, physical abuse, psychological distress, exploitation, and neglect – just to name a few. Another statistic that will have people running from the medical community is that 90% of these abusers are known. Nearly all of the time, those who abuse nursing home residents are not strangers.
