Sarasota Chalk Festival 2012 Has Begun

The Sarasota Chalk Festival has returned for the fifth year, and 500 artists will be gracing us with their artistic mastery.  This 10-day cultural event is being held from Oct. 28th – Nov. 6th in the Burns Square neighborhood of downtown Sarasota.  The main festivities will be taking place from Nov. 1st – 5th.  Local, national and international artists will be showcasing their special kind of 2D and 3D street art.  Seven blocks will be closed to traffic so that the artists can work their magic; the pavement will be their canvas, and the chalk their medium.  This year’s theme for the event is “Circus City, USA” which is quite fitting for a city full of circus history.  Aside from the artists taking to the streets, there will be several stages set up for music, magic, drama, dance and acrobatic and aerial performances.
