Top 5 Destinations that Will Change Your Life Forever

Annie Foy picks five of the most wonderful destinations for your travel plans this year.

Most vacations are spent relaxing and unwinding from a busy, stressful life. What if you want more out of your vacation? Where do you go if you’re looking for a life-altering experience? If you are looking for a vacation that does more than offer a break from your everyday life, we’ve got several destinations for you to choose from. Some of these destinations may be nearby, and some of these destinations may be far away. One thing is for certain: each has the potential to change your life forever!

Grand Canyon

You can stand at the top of the Grand Canyon, looking down, admiring all the bountiful beauty of the river below. Thousands of tourists do just that, every year. Instead of taking the typical tourists’ trip, get yourself into the Canyon and raft down the Colorado River. You can’t experience the true majesty of the Canyon unless you are standing in its depths. Camping in the Grand Canyon is unlike any other experience you will have in your lifetime. This is a vacation that belongs at the top of everyone’s bucket list!

India

India is one of the most amazing countries on Earth. There are very few other places where you can visit slums, where people live five or more to a single room, share toilets and water, and then visit high-rises that some of the wealthiest people in the nation call home, and just within blocks of each other. The beautiful country is filled with vibrant colors and spiritual people. Try to take a tour that is a bit off of the beaten path to get a real feel for all that is India.

London

The best thing about London is that it looks exactly as you imagine it would. Stone architecture, cobblestone streets and open-air markets abound in this amazingly historic city. From the Tower of London to the Houses of Parliament, London offers a virtually never-ending list of things to see and do. You will marvel at how the city combines old-world architecture with modern-day living.

Easter Island

The ancient statues on the island, the Moai, remain a mystery to this day. Who built these awe-inspiring statues and why? We may never know the answer to those questions. What we do know is that Easter Island is an amazingly complex island, filled with caves, craters and stone carvings. Visitors to the island continue to be inspired by the mysticism of Easter Island. If you are looking for a spiritual journey, this is the vacation for you.

Bhutan

Tourism is strictly limited in this country, leaving it virtually unspoiled by man. The only Buddhist kingdom on the planet, the entire country is a peaceful, happy place. Striking monasteries dot the sides of the Himalayas, and local villagers welcome tourists into their homes as if they were long-lost family. Volunteerism trips are hugely popular in this country. Book a tour with a company that will allow you to lend a helping hand during your vacation.

Taking a holiday from work can be so much more than a few days spent at the nearest tourist destination. While these vacations may be expensive, and you may need more money on hand than the average tourist, they are all well worth the cost. Budget properly and you could be spending your next vacation rafting through the Grand Canyon or trekking through Bhutan. No matter which destination you choose, you’re sure to come home a different person.

Very inspiring article! A trip to Europe has changed my life forever, has made me a better person, a dreamer and a traveler. Now, my goal is to visit India. I can’t help myself of wondering how this amazing land will change my life but I’m sure it will, in a very beautiful way. Thanks for the article.

Well, I don’t know that I could say that visiting the Grand Canyon has changed my life forever, but it sure is a big hole. London is one of my favorite destinations because it is SO OLD. History, history, history.
