The Hoodie: A Symbol Of Solidarity With Trayvon Martin’s Family! Get Your Hoodie On!
“Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush, of Illinois, was escorted off of the House floor on Wednesday after donning a hoodie and sunglasses in honor of slain teenager Trayvon Martin.”
Rep. Brown violated a violated a rule in Congress that prohibits wearing a hat on the House floor.
The congressman engaged in a silly publicity stunt that will do nothing to advance justice for Trayvon Martin or find a solution for the race problem in America.
Trayvon was wearing a hoodie, probably as protection against the rain, when he was gunned down by wannabe cop George Zimmerman.
But regardless if Trayvon was wearing the hoodie so he wouldn`t get wet or as a fashion statement, wearing the garment didn`t give anyone the right to gun him down as a likely thug.
Hoodies may be donned by some gangstas so they won`t be readily recognized, but it has become the ubiquitous uniform of teens of every ethnicity and economic level.
The hoodie has become a symbol of solidarity with the Martin Family following the killing of their son. Hundreds of protesters across the nation have participated in “Million Hoodie Marches” demanding justice for the teen`s killing and condemning racial profiling.
An adult wearing a hoodie looks ridiculous, even when he wears one as a means of expressing solidarity with Trayvon`s family.
Rep. Rush should stop engaging in cheap publicity stunts, and spend his time writing bills that address the problems of racism and gun violence.
