A New Chapter Beginning in New York? Welcome Tim Tebow…

 

Tim Tebow is the name in football that people are rallying behind, much to the surprise of the Denver Broncos. Now, yes, with Peyton Manning as the Broncos new weapon, they feel they are now on the cusp of winning it all. However, Peyton is now in a place where he is following an “underdog” who won a title for the Broncos, and if he doesn’t get them back there and surpass that moment, Peyton may be seen as the biggest mistake ever made.

 

But, ironically, everyone is standing behind Tm Tebow – not only his new home in New York. Pat Robertson, out of nowhere, came on The 700 Club and began to rant about the Tebow trade.

 

“The Denver Broncos treated him (Tebow) shabbily,” Robertson said. “He won seven games. He brought them into the playoffs, for heaven’s sakes. I mean, they were a nothing team.”

 

Then…Robertson – whether you like him or not – said out loud the one thing that everyone is saying in the privacy of their own homes:

 

“Peyton Manning was a tremendous MVP quarterback, but he’s been injured. If that injury comes back, Denver will find itself without a quarterback. And, in my opinion, it would serve them right.”
Everyone in the world – especially bloggers – are having a hugely happy time replaying this quote over and over again, adding to the “Tebowmania” that is growing from coast to coast. The Tebow faithful in Denver were the ones who helped turn a ‘saintly’ young man into the most polarizing figure in NFL history, and the ‘preacher’ was just repeating what everyone else is already thinking.

 

Yes, Robertson has given some amazingly ridiculous ‘warnings,’ such as his suggestion that the U.S. State Department needed to be nuked; and 9/11 was partially caused by pagans. He also said the world was going to end in 1982, but think about it people – this particular comment was just a comment, nothing more. Robertson was not announcing bad things for Denver, he was simply making the remark that everyone has already made. People out there think of Manning as the ‘hero’ of quarterbacks – and he’s a great one. But they also thought that way of Montana and a slew of others (who actually were far better than Manning). And Manning now does have a goal in front of him where there is no ‘give.’ If he had chosen to go to another team, perhaps this would all be a blink of a headline and then gone…but he didn’t. He ousted the underdog and that’s simply not what America wants to see.

 

Should Tebow spend one second worrying about someone like Pat Robertson? No. The boy can laugh it off and move on. Which he has done.

 

It was the Jets coach, Rex Ryan, who spoke a great deal about the various ‘jobs’ that Tebow will be able to handle as a Jet, and has already gotten New York fans excited. No, he will not be the starting quarterback – but, you never know.

 

Ryan did state that: “Mark Sanchez is our No. 1 quarterback, and Tim is our No. 2, but he’s also going to do other things for this football team.” Ryan continued, “He is a football player, and that’s what I keep wanting to put out there. Let’s not just look at him as a quarterback. I look at him as a football player. Let’s not hear what guys can’t do, let’s talk about what they can do. I see a guy with a lot of ability, and we’re going to use that.”

 

What else does Tebow have? Loyalty. Tebow has repeatedly said he wants to play quarterback, even though talent evaluators have stated that he could also have a lengthy NFL career as a multidimensional player, perhaps as a halfback, tight end and running back killer combination. Which is something that Ryan may be looking into.

 

“I don’t see Tim just holding a clipboard,” Ryan said. “He’s going to be playing for us.”

 

Do the fans matter in New York as much as they mattered in Denver? Oh, yeah. When asked about Tebow, the Jets’ owner, said: “We work for the fans, and the fans want us to win games. So all the decisions that we make regarding the team are just for football. If you get confused in terms of what your mission is, you’re not going to accomplish the mission, and our mission is to win games – pure and simple.”

 

But as we all know just from the Manning debacle, the face of football changes all the time and Tebow may just step on that field in the quarterback position yet.

 

The Giants are also, oddly enough, being affected by Tebow coming to their stadium. The Giants just signed a backup quarterback last week by the name of David Carr, and when the Giants co-owner was asked if New York was big enough for the Giants and Tebow, he said: “I don’t know. But the David Carr news conference will be tomorrow afternoon, too.”

 

Tim Tebow’s huge introduction by the Jets was held in the full-size indoor field house where, funnily enough, the coach, Rex Ryan, and starting quarterback, Mark Sanchez were NOT held. See that? The team’s new backup quarterback already has become the talk of the New York-New Jersey market in the five days since the Jets traded for him. This is rare, as you look back over the decades, that a No. 2 quarterback would command a live press conference airing, and the number of credentialed reporters was huge.

 

Perhaps Tebow will become the poster child for the Jets simply because he still IS the underdog who deserves his chance to shine. This is a unique young man who led the Denver Broncos to a division title and first-round playoff win as their starter – and, quite frankly, the Broncos weren’t on anyone‘s list to even make it out of the starting gate last year. But as the media descends and the fans begin to clap, this move may not only bury the Broncos with their wrong decision, but may also outshine the Super Bowl champions in their own home state!
