High Intensity Exercise for Everyday (or, Out of Shape) People!

Readers, the term high-intensity training has been making it’s way into newspapers, magazines and websites on a daily basis, but that term can mean many different things to a person depending on their age, fitness level, etc.. Many recent studies are being cited indicating that it’s not how long one exercises, it’s the effort or intensity that matters the most. If, like most of us, you’re probably not in the best of shape, then the term “High Intensity” can strike a bit of fear into the heart of anyone who is not an exercise ‘expert.’

For over 14 years now, Brian Cygan – the owner and founder of The Exercise Coach – has been developing and delivering what he calls, “Full Effort” exercise programs to everyday people in and around the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Brian, an Exercise Physiologist with a emphasis on Kinesiology, has always had a passion for helping people that he calls, “Unlikely Exercisers.” These are people that really would like the benefits of a quality exercise program but do not have the time or motivation to hit the gym four to six times per week.

Years ago as an undergraduate, Brian became convinced that shorter duration, higher effort or intensity exercise was what really mattered when it came to delivering beneficial exercise. At the core of this methodology is the fact that you will live longer and feel better with an exercise program that runs on higher effort in a shorter duration.

Common sense, research, history, studies – all of these aspects have proven that if you exercise you will have a better life. We also know that muscle mass will decrease as we age unless we work over time to stop it. Training that is geared towards improving muscular power has proven to be highly effective for improving functional capacity and quality of life. Now, when it comes to relatively intense physical training – an exercise program must be adapted to the person’s own functional capacity, which includes muscular strength, aerobic physical condition, joint mobility, motor skill, self-esteem and longevity. Full Effort takes all of these into account.

Under The Exercise Coach regimen, increases in strength can be as high as 10-30% in as little as six to twelve weeks. A shorter duration training program that combines muscular strength followed by a brief session of endurance exercise is one of the best strategies for improving neuromuscular and cardiovascular function, while improving overall health and well being. The effects on blood pressure, cholesterol levels, reduction and reversal of osteoporosis and, the biggie, “loss of body fat,” can be dramatic when diet is adjusted to maximize results.

Brian’s study and desire to truly help the average person has resulted in the creation of powerful and practical exercise strategies for the 85% of us who fail to lose weight or get in shape by following the conventionally accepted idea that mere activity will do it all when it comes to providing beneficial exercise. With over a decade of ‘real world’ experience that has been proven with thousands of clients, Brian and The Exercise Coach have long been practicing what is just now becoming accepted as “The Truth When It Comes to Exercise.” Much of the information out there about exercise is actually misinformation, made up of some long held common beliefs as well as fads and trends, and with the internet, there’s not one person who hasn’t been bombarded by advertisements of the next ‘big-thing’ that will solve everyone’s dieting and exercising difficulties overnight. The Exercise Coach philosophy and programs have been proven over time, and line up with research studies that have increasingly confirmed that muscle quality is more important that movement quantity.

The Exercise Coach program is not only a perfect fit for anyone who is too busy, doesn’t like the gym ‘scene,’ or just hates the idea of exercise; it is the most efficient and effective way to work out, providing an exact dosage of high quality exercise.

In the last year, The Exercise Coach began awarding franchise territories throughout Illinois and has plans to expand into certain areas of the U.S. starting with the Southeast. When you visit an Exercise Coach location you won’t see a lot of scantily-clad hard bodies; most of the clients are everyday people, with many in their 50’s and 60’s, who just want to work out in a clean, private, safe environment. With proprietary equipment and routines, The Exercise Coach  is safe for people of all ages.

I’m hoping to soon see Exercise Coach facilities all across the country because once you try it, you’ll never want to go back to the old way of working out!

The most common personal fitness barrier – lack of time – has been wiped off the slate as an excuse. Clients who get on board with The Exercise Coach achieve much-sought-after results with no more than two twenty-minute workouts per week. These results are confirmed by many happy clients. Just take some time to visit their website and view the testimonials.

By taking the benefits of the latest technology and blending them with personal coaching, The Exercise Coach offers a first for the fitness industry. Their studios provide clients with an unprecedented transformation. Training sessions are also delivered in a variety of formats, from One-on-One to Partner to small group sessions, with each and every one featuring personal guidance from one of their expert coaches. Hi-tech strength and interval training that adapts to any fitness level; instantaneous computer feedback for increased motivation and focus; and all set in an inviting, clean and super-safe environment.

Full effort for full effect is based on performing quality weight training repetitions, taking into account the number of repetitions, the amount of weight, and the amount of time the muscle is exposed to tension in order to maximize the amount of muscle fiber recruitment stressing intensity over repetition.

The Exercise Coach is a truly amazing program, and the company, founder, franchisees – every part of this is a team! I, for one, want so very badly to see all of these pills, supplements and programs that actually hurt your body be erased for all time. We are not helping ourselves with these products, we are getting results that are hurting our bodies, shortening our lives, and frankly – erasing ourselves.

The Exercise Coach is a subject that we are going to be delving into week after week. From the programs and techniques used, to the amazing franchising opportunities, to interviews with the founder and the franchisees who have their own very important stories to share – we’ll look at it all.

One Response to High Intensity Exercise for Everyday (or, Out of Shape) People!

  1. JoAnn

I’ve been a client of the Exercise Coach for a year and they are exactly what they promise. This is the place for those of us who want to workout or know we should but never quite do. The appointment-based sessions mean you don’t fight for machines and you don’t have to feel intimidated by the hard bodies. The Coaches really partner with you to help you reach whatever your goals are, fitness or weight loss. I know a lot of people are put off when they hear strength training, but it really is for anyone. In my case, I was as out of shape and overweight as you could be. Now I’m 67 pounds lighter. I have a hard time convincing people that I did only working out for 20 minutes twice a week along with diet, but it’s true. Consider yourselves lucky if The Exercise Coach comes to Florida.
