Former St. Augustine Resident Shannon Greenland Debuts ‘The Summer My Life Began’ this May
Every girl has that moment when she realizes just who she really is, and what she wants out of life. That’s the magical story behind Shannon Greenland’s The Summer My Life Began (May 10,2012, Penguin Publishing).
In the book, 17-year-old Em sparks a romance, has the opportunity to explore her love of cooking and finds the freedom to be whoever she wants during her summer-stay at her aunt’s island resort. It’s a dream come true—and exactly the break Em needed from her strict family and their high expectations of her. But Em uncovers a long-buried secret about her family and suddenly finds herself making big choices about her future she never dreamed she’d have the chance to make.
Greenland made quite a splash in the YA scene with The Specialist Series from 2004-2010, as well as her three romantic suspense novels. Her books have earned awards from National Booksellers, Romantic Times, National Readers Choice, American Library Association, Daphne du Maurier and many more prestigious literary organizations.
“Light-hearted feel,” Reading Books; “The author’s style is so rich,” FallenAngel Reviews; “I would recommend this story to anyone,” Brook Crossing; “Greenland makes you ride along, and I love it!” Echelon Press; “The imagery used to twine the characterslives is amazing,” Writers Unlimited; “Witty and very adventurous. About the author: Shannnon Greenland’s life growing up was nothingcompared to her main character Em’s. From a small town in Tennessee, her daysincluded farming, hillbilly speak and cruising the K-Mart parking lot. She dreaded reading and writing as a kid. Ironic, as she’s now a successful award-winning author. When not writing, Shannon’s eager for adventure outside of a book’s pages. Hiking, rafting, climbing, caving, swimming, snorkeling, sailing, surfing, mountain biking, spelunking, canoeing, power lifting, running, camping, parasailing . . . she’s done it all. The world traveler lives now in northern Virginia where she works as a middle school math teacher and gives author talks at area schools.
