St. Johns County “Leaders Of The Future” to Meet President Bill Clinton on March 20th
On March 19, 2012, a group of 18 local high school students will meet President Bill Clinton at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.
These students will be the winners of the St. Johns County Cultural Events Division’s “Leaders of the Future” Program. To be considered
eligible for this countywide program, students who are enrolled in a Social Studies course and demonstrate exceptional community involvement, a sense of character, and exercise leadership both inside and outside of the classroom setting are nominated by their high school principal. Each principal may invite up to 10 students to participate.
The nominated students must then complete an application process including submission of a written essay. The essay contest is based on a choice of previously selected topics by the Cultural Events Division and the Social Studies Program Specialist for St. Johns County School District, Ted Banton.
The essays will be judged by a panel comprised of influential community members including:
Joe Boles – Mayor, City of St. Augustine
Cathy Brown – Executive Director, St. Johns County Council on Aging
Timothy Egnor – Executive Director for Curriculum, St. John’s County School District
Bill Mignon – District 3 Representative, St. John’s County School Board
Mark Miner – Commissioner, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners
Ryan Murphy – General Manager, St. Johns County Cultural Events Division
Doug Wiles – President, Herbie Wiles Insurance
Ed Wuellner – Executive Director, Northeast Florida Regional Airport
The selected scholars will be awarded a meet and greet session with President Clinton, and a ticket to his March 19th speaking engagement. The applicants not selected by the panel of judges will be awarded a ticket to the event for their efforts and in appreciation for their dedication to the St. Johns County community.
Ryan Murphy will be available for an interview regarding the “Leaders of the Future” program, as well as President Clinton’s speaking engagement. For more information, please contact him directly at (904) 209 – 3741 or by email at RMurphy@sjcfl.us.
