Mythica: Branding Myself
The cool thing about getting to write your own column is that awesome power of the blank page. What will Mythica write NEXT!!?!?!?
Well this is my first time doing this and so far it seems that you guys like what I write so I’m just going to keep going. Turns out that it is ok to pimp myself out. I’ve been instructed by several different sources that I need to brand myself. It sounds like a hot poker and some Hollywood movie scene where there is lots of screaming involved.
I’m sure that those of you out there in cyber space want to see more of my adventures. In fact many of you have told me as much! Well seems that branding myself is a way for you and me both to get ridiculously happy with each other. At least I like to think of it that way. No one likes to be “sold.” It always makes the person doing the buying feel used. I don’t know of a single person who likes that feeling unless they are into that sort of thing.
Usually the process is fairly easy because people are about one thing in general.
“I wrote a book about my life.”
“I’m a dancer.”
“I’m a professional consultant.”
“I am a musician.”
“I’m a contractor.”
Well I’m a Mythica.
Really that is the short and easy list for me… the only “real” category I fit comfortably in. True a lot of what I am doing right now that is my passion is body painting. I am not just good at it, but part of who I am as a healer in integrated into my process which makes me unique. I’m a prolific poet, who has also written three poetry books and is working on a fourth. My poetry has saved lives. This is no small thing. I also happen to be one of the best chalk artist at bright vibrant color on the planet. I’ve had several near death experiences and give amazing talks on the subject of life and death, which is unique to myself. SO… how does one “brand” so much “stuff” for one person? I don’t want to reduce all that I am to a list of categories that don’t overwhelm the public.
There is a reason that it took five days to introduce me in a series of articles. Yes, my friends on Facebook are used to it at this point, but YOU aren’t all of them! I mean I’ve been told that my last few articles have been read 10,000+!!! That is WAY more than I have friends! So I am acknowledging you out there safely behind your monitor reading this article from the comfort of your smart phone and cubical or home. I’m glad that there is something in these little black and white words that you are connecting with. That’s my job. I don’t mean that it’s my job to write articles. It’s my job to connect human beings, both to themselves and to each other. No one gave this job to me, it is simply in the deepest part of who I am, and it is what I do no matter what I am doing.
If I am writing poetry I am connecting to myself and to the Divine. When you read it I am connecting you to your inner Divine, whether you know it or not, believe in it or not is irrelevant. When you connect to the words, you connect. I will leave it up to you to decide what you are calling it.
If I am body painting I love myself, and listen to what wants to be painted in and on the soul of the body before me. I don’t have the “agenda” I am going to help heal this person… part of the words I say internally are “she/he is whole, just they way they are. They are loved. They are perfect.” Then that energy and the soul merge into something more than the perfection before me. I connect them, to themselves.
If I am doing chalk art or street painting I connect with a vision, and idea, a feeling. I am ridiculously happy the more people I am in front of and chalk art festivals let me do art without the isolation of being in a studio cut off from the rest of the world. I get to discover along with everyone else, what happens in each moment as it happens. I love that 150,000 to 200,000 people stroll by over the course of several days. I love art but I also LOVE to talk and connect with those who are looking at a moment in time that will NEVER exist ever again.
Suffice it to say that these are three things out of many that I do, but it is not all that I am. They are, on the other hand, three things about myself that I can brand so far as marketing goes in such a way that other people can show their financial appreciation for all that I am.
I believe in a universe that is conspiring to help me succeed. Fortunately for me, that means YOU are a part of that amazing universe! Yes. You are amazing. Don’t argue with me. Just be gracious and say thank you. If not, then you have to say three nice things about yourself. If I catch you even thinking something other than that again, you have to say three MORE nice things about yourself! Just ask my body painting models!!!!
I really want to travel all over doing these things that I love to do. So if you would like to see me in person, doing these amazing things I am writing about, then invite me!! Become a part of the story that are these Mythical Adventures!!!! Create an event! Fly me out there! I will body paint. I will do chalk art. I will read poetry. I will connect with you in person. I am not just a brand, I am a person. I think Oprah did a really good job of being both. I think the Dali Lama does a good job too. They are both people and something that the world recognizes. They also contribute to the world as much as the world contributes to them in return. They are in a place I can see myself being in. I also see you as being a part of that too. Cool huh? Come adventuring with me… because the brand of person I am is unconditional creative love. I just happen to be called Mythica.
