You can’t get finer than this, people!  A band that everyone has known and loved since the seventies – Mother’s Finest - is about to be introduced onto a huge stage at a stellar concert by the men of Man Made – the finest band of the 21^st Century!

On November 4,  2011, Man Made will be opening for Mother’s Finest at the BIG PIG JIG® in Vienna, Georgia!  Mother’s Finest, 2011 inductees into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, and Man Made are going to bring their amazing talent, skill, fantastic music, and incredible voices to the show.   This show will be a great get away concert and fun for the folks of St.  Augustine and Jacksonville, for this event is just a short two and half hour drive away.

As every music lover knows - or, should know - Mother’s Finest is a ‘funky rock’ band that was founded in Atlanta, Georgia in the early 1970s.  This group was phenomenal right out of the gate.  The music of Mother’s Finest was always heralded as a blend of funky rhythm, heavy guitars, and extremely expressive R&B singing.  But this was never an ordinary band.  Mother’s Finest were true pioneers in playing, creating, and producing funk rock.  Their album, Mother’s Finest from 1976, is today a rare collector’s piece.  Mother’s Finest KNEW what their audiences wanted, and in the fall of 1976, Mother’s Finest hit the road with the biggest band around – The Who.  They wowed with their performances and amazed every single crowd member with their stunning stage shows.

In the late seventies, Mother’s Finest produced more soul-oriented albums; then, at the beginning of the eighties, they ‘shifted gears’ by releasing some serious heavy rock on an album titled, Iron Age.  In the nineties they returned with a funk-metal album titled, Black Radio Won’t Play This Record. And – not done by a long shot – in 2004 they released a CD, Meta-funk-’n-physical which unveiled their hip hop and electric side to their grateful fans.

Mother’s Finest is a beloved band that has stood the test of time.  And Man Made is the band that WILL stand the test of time.  We have been talking about Man Made for a couple of weeks now, and this writer has already told you that their music, beat, vibe, and pure exhilaration when they step on stage, is mythical.  Mind-Altering!  Like Mother’s Finest, these five incredible men – Jason Blankenship, Casey Camp, Bradd Poole, Brian Abson, and Drake Kennedy, cross genres…and make it look easy! Man Made’s songs are provocative, soulful, and exciting all at the same time.  And this is yet another ‘Georgia Gem’ that will become massive stars in the music industry.

The concert is rather special to Man Made because the date of the event is the same date their amazing debut CD was released.  Last year in November, Man Made released their first original album titled, “Starting With You,” which, as I have said before, is a MUST HEAR.  Their music, their lyrics – everything about Man Made is simply superb; and Mother’s Finest could not be more taken care of than to have these incredible beings open the night for them.  It’s as if “James Bond” were introducing “Indiana Jones.”  Think about it!  Mother’s Finest is an icon and Man Made WILL be!  A perfect, immaculate match!

To get to the location (because all of you readers HAVE to know about this incredibly fun and huge annual event). The BIG PIG JIG® is Georgia’s largest BBQ contest, and crowds from all over the country arrive every year to be a part of this monumental experience!

The BIG PIG JIG® was born in Vienna, Georgia when a group of self-professed gourmets made wagers on who among them could cook the most succulent pig!  It was that year, 1982, when those creative, and extremely talented chefs, recommended combining a barbecue cooking competition with a well-established arts and crafts fair – that also included the county’s livestock association annual hog show.  By merging all of these events, this magnificent festival has garnered almost every accolade possible through the years – even being named (twice!) as one of the ‘Top 100 Events’ to be held in the United States of America!  Not only that, but this unforgettable event has also been placed three times in the ‘Top 20 Events in the Southeast’ by the Southeast Tourism Society, and has been recognized by Southeast Festivals and Events Association and International Festivals and Events Association with more than twenty five awards – including The Best Georgia Festival.

I know, as I stated before in my articles, Georgia has a jewel that the rest of the world REALLY wants to share in…and here’s yet another!  BIG PIG JIG® was listed by Travel Agent magazine as one of ‘America’s Top 500 Festivals,’ AND was touted by Tom Clynes (author of Wild Planet) as one of the world’s ‘1,001 Most Extraordinary Events.’ So it’s not just the U.S. of A that’s jealous of Georgia – the world can envy it as well!

There are so many accolades when it comes to this event and contest that it will blow your mind.  The Discovery Travel Channel even got into the action when they named the contest as one of the Top 10 “World’s Best Barbecue Contests” for the past four years. The festival even garnered their own one-hour special, “The BIG PIG JIG®.”

In 1982, when all this first began, twenty teams competed – cooking whole hogs only – and $1,000 in prize money was awarded to the top seven contenders. This became so well-loved, and the attendance so massive, that a new site was purchased on Interstate 75 near Georgia Highway 215 in Vienna.  Ever since – year after year – expansion at the facility has been necessary just to accommodate the event’s massive growth.  Over time, the festival expanded their activities to include everything from a parade, sidewalk art contest, crafts and collectibles, fantastic food and – THIS YEAR – the absolute best music in the nation.

With the teaming of Man Made - the stellar group rising in the charts and garnering listeners on an hourly basis; with Mother’s Finest - the ultimate icons who are still bringing the ‘best of the best’ where music is concerned, November 4^th-5^th in Vienna, Georgia will absolutely outshine any event that has been, or will be, held across the globe!

In hat is now called BBQ City, U.S.A. these two bands will stop the show and take the audience to a whole new level of exhilaration and awe.  I have to say, Man Made, Mothers Finest, and the BIG PIG JIG® all have one thing in common:  Although others have tried to imitate or duplicate them, they have failed – because these are three absolute stars shining in their own world.  BBQ City will always be the one and only home to the most incredible festival in this country.  Mother’s Finest will always be the number one ‘genre-crossover’ band that ever entered the American music scene.  And Man Made will always be the killer band who are soon headed for the CMA Awards, the Grammy stage, and the history books!
