Florida Paraplegic Hunter Shoots Himself With Crossbow
“Florida authorities said a paraplegic hunter accidentally shot himself in the foot with a crossbow, pinning him to the floor of his all-terrain vehicle.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said John Champion, 21, was hunting alone in his Polaris Ranger at the Fiber Factory Hunt Club in Gulf Hammock and accidentally fired a crossbow bolt through his left foot while attempting to cock the weapon, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Thursday.”

To quote Clint Eastwood as “Dirty Harry”, “a man`s got to know his limitations.” It`s sheer insanity for a paraplegic to go hunting alone on an all-terrain vehicle, that`s difficult for an able-bodied person to control.
It`s no surprise that this hapless fellow shot himself in the foot, literally and metaphorically. At least, being a paraplegic, he didn`t feel any physical pain, although I`m sure he suffered psychological and emotional pain when the paramedics found him in his embarrassing predicament.
I don`t have a smidgen of sympathy for Champion, in an encounter between a human hunter and an animal, it`s almost always the poor beast who gets the worst of it.
I`m not against hunting per se, but when a hunter is injured, tough luck! In this case it`s prey 1, hunter 0.

I disagree that it’s “sheer insanity” for a paraplegic to hunt alone with an all-terrain vehicle. People accidentally injure themselves sometimes, but I doubt it has to do with him having a disability. It’s great that he was out doing what he loved. He doesn’t need a chaperone.
