Celebrating 10th Anniversary: B.R.A.S.S. Ring Competition

B.R.A.S.S. (Beaches Residents Actively Supporting the Symphony) is pleased to announce the B.R.A.S.S. Ring Music Competition on Saturday March 19 from 10:00am – 4:00pm at the Ponte Vedra Public Library. Applications and instructions for mailing your applications are available from music teachers, at the Ponte Vedra Beach Library or online at www.BRASSonline.org. Please note that the deadline for all applications is March 26.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, this event encourages aspiring young musicians and vocalists to be diligent and professional as they continue their musical studies in voice, piano or instrumental performance. The competition invites entrants from public, private or home-schooled students in 6th thru 12th grades who live at the Beaches. Students must present two memorized classical compositions.

This year’s event is expected to award $1400 in prizes. The judges include Ms. Aida Ribeiro Mechetti, concert pianist and teacher; Nick Curry, cello professor of University of North Florida and Krzystztof Biernacki, voice professor at University of North Florida.

The competition is organized by Mr. Gerson Yessin, an internationally renowned pianist who has performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, The Boston Symphony and San Francisco Symphony. The faculty of University of North Florida voted him “distinguished professor” where he is the founding chairman of the Music Department and Professor Emeritus.

B.R.A.S.S. supports the Jacksonville Symphony and promotes continuing music education in the schools.
