Patricia Mack, author of Famous Florida! ® Delicious Grapefruit Recipes will make an appearance and sign her cookbook in the gift shop at the Columbia Restaurant, 98 St. George St., from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, January 29.
Mack, the veteran cookbook author and nationally recognized newspaper food editor who wrote The 15-Minute Chef, Tomatoes, and Corn, found a wealth of ideas for one of Florida’s major crops – grapefruit. Published by Seaside Publishing in St. Petersburg, Fl, Delicious Grapefruit Recipes contains both conventional as well as unconventional methods to prepare grapefruit.
Readers will find that grapefruit is more versatile than just about any other citrus. Mack demonstrates ways to use these giant golden globes in beverages, appetizers, main courses, breakfast dishes and desserts. The book is a combination of recipes from some of Florida’s famous chefs and cooks, but most of the recipes were developed by Mack using fruit from the prolific grapefruit tree that grows in the side yard of her vacation home in Cocoa, Florida.
The easy-to-prepare, crowd-pleasing recipes include;
candied grapefruit peel
blue crab cakes with citrus beurre blanc
barbecued fruit and shrimp kebabs
corn fritters with grapefruit sauce
Indian River grapefruit meringue cake.
The soft cover, 111-page book is $8.95 on sale at the Columbia gift shop as well as national bookstore chains and gourmet shops. Order online at www.famousflorida.com or call 1-888-FLA-BOOK. Mack lives in Cocoa, Florida and East Brunswick, New Jersey.
