ATM Robbery in Ponte Vedra
PONTE VEDRA, FL 2/2/09 – A 54-year old Ponte Vedra Beach woman reported an armed robbery that occurred at an ATM machine Sunday evening. Deputies responded to the bank (Bank of America), in the 600 block of A1A North at 7:30 p.m. in reference to a robbery.
The victim told deputies that she pulled up to the drive-through ATM, opened the car door and began to make a deposit. The victim stated that a male subject approached who continued to open her door and advised her to stay calm. The suspect ordered the victim to withdraw $400 from her account and he began to coach her through the screens. The victim nervously withdrew $40 and the suspect ordered her to get $400 in which she complied. The suspect then took the money and ran northeast through the parking lot behind the buildings.
Deputies along with a K-9 unit and the Sheriff’s Office helicopter responded to the area but did not locate the suspect. The suspect was described as a black male, 5’8” tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black bandana covering his mouth and nose. He was armed with a small silver hand gun.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit are continuing the investigation.
