Winter Wonderland to Frost Over the Saint Augustine Amphitheatre Beginning Friday, November 23

The 6th Annual Winter Wonderland at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre will be open to the public beginning Friday, November 23rd.

Hosted by the St. Johns County Cultural Events Division, Winter Wonderland features North Florida’s premiere outdoor ice skating rink, along with our brand new Ice Chute, RC Race Track and Kid’s Room. Other attractions include: Carnival Games, the Jr. Holly Jolly Trolley, Blizzard Bounce House and Inflatable Obstacle Course, Igloo Ski Lounge, Face Painting, Elf Village, Sleigh Rides, S’mores Pit, Nightly Snowfall, and of course Visits with Santa!

Over 78,000 parents, children and friends attended the event last year– testimony to our appeal as the prime holiday destination for friends, families and visitors in the North Florida area. There are activities for guests of all ages as well as various food and beverage options to enjoy while exploring the Amphitheatre’s sprawling Anastasia State Park campus. Everything is bigger, brighter and better this year, as well as our introduction of a few very exciting new attractions. The Ice Slide of years past will be converted into the Ice Chute— a 140 foot inner tube ride traveling across the seating bowl under the Amphitheatre canopy. There are two different points of entry onto the slide: a normal entrance, and a higher point for thrill seekers. In addition to the Ice Chute, we also have an RC Race Track, which allows guests to maneuver a mini race car amongst numerous tricky turns throughout a 250 foot dirt track.

Confirmed special events at Winter Wonderland this year include: Weekly School Fundraising nights, Hospitality Industry Night on November 26, WQIK Country Night on December 4, a performance by the Fruit Cove Middle School Band on December 8, and the Professional Firefighters of St. Augustine 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off on December 15. Please see our website for more information on these individual events.

Our dedication to planning for Winter Wonderland is evident by the amazing transformation from one of the most popular music venues in the Southeast to a wonderland of holiday cheer and spirit. Nightly snowfalls will make you feel as if you transcended into a sparkling snow village, while the Igloo Ski Lounge provides an escape by a warm fire to have a cocktail (for guests 21+ only). Also new this year is the Kids Room, which provides a haven filled with books, activities and games for children 5 and under with a chaperone. Winter Wonderland offers something for everyone: guests of all ages, those daring or shy, who prefer activities indoors or outside, and there are free or ticketed games like your favorite holiday fair. Don’t miss out on this once a year experience!

The Day After the Day Of by Paul Ilechko   The sky sheds its tears. This morning is the morning of the day after. The day of mourning, the day after the day of.  I beseech the sky to shed tears in order to wash away the tears on my face.   This is the first day of the time after. History Being Sold to the Highest Bidder

History Being Sold to the Highest Bidder by Amy Lignor   For the longest time, scientists and archaeologists have been confused and bemused by various discoveries they’ve unearthed that offer little or no explanation as to the who, what, and why of the people who created these things or left them behind. Even now, in 2017, there are discoveries being studied; stories that were once legends now have actual bits of proof being found that … [Read More its Good for You.....]

The NFL Looks at David vs. Goliath

The NFL Looks at David vs. Goliath by Amy Lignor   This has been one of those odd football seasons where the facts given at the beginning by those panels of “experts” that “know” a great deal about America’s favorite game, turned out to be more than a little wrong. What’s the strangest thing that just might happen when it comes to the Super Bowl? Easy to answer. It just might be that for the first time a QB who didn’t actually play for … [Read More its Good for You...]
