Where’s My Favorite Sandwich In Boston?

On a recent summer trip to Boston I was surprised to see that Which Wich Superior Sandwiches had not yet appeared in the unofficial “Capital of New England.” I came to find out that this unique sandwich franchise that’s growing in popularity in various parts of the country, does not have any locations in the whole of New England at this time…which is truly astonishing!

If you’ve never heard of Which Wich or, worse yet, if you’ve never even enjoyed a ‘Wich’ from Which Wich, then you do NOT know what you’re missing! Based in Dallas, Texas, this company has locations in most major metropolitan areas throughout the South and Midwest, and if you’re a New Englander you should definitely feel a shot of envy!

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Which Wich in Atlanta, Charlotte and Denver; and each and every trip offered me a good time and a great sandwich. Not only can you order a sandwich made just about any way you want it, the whole experience is something that I haven’t found anywhere else. There’s always a person at the door to greet you and help new people through the ordering process; they even inform you about changes to the menu and specials that are being run. As we all know, it’s nice to be greeted by a friendly face with a smile; in fact, that warm welcome sets the tone for the whole visit.

The ordering process is very fun and unique, another good reason why the greeter is there for you when you arrive. Posted on the wall are ‘brown bags’ representing each sandwich category. You pick out a bag from one of the choices: meat, chicken, beef, Italian, cheese, veggie, etc., and then you start to design your sandwich by checking off all the toppings or choices on the ‘bag’ with a red “Sharpie.” There are the standard toppings, like lettuce, pickles, cheese…more than 50 different meat/filling combinations and 44 toppings are available at Which Wich! (I’ll let you ‘math’ types figure out how many different sandwich combos that makes!) All I know is that they are ALL delicious and can please any set of taste buds at any time!

Once you fill out your order on your bag and ‘custom design’ your personal Wich, you take the bag up to the counter, hand it over to the cashier and pay for your Wich, chips, drink and anything else you can’t live without. Then your bag heads down what I like to call the “Wich Assembly Line.”

AND, for a little extra fun, if want to know exactly where your Wich is in the process, you can put “your mark” on the back of the bag. See, the bags are clipped to a line that runs the length of the counter, and if you want to be able to see where you are in the process and when you’re going to receive your Wich, you can put a symbol, your name, or any other identifier on the back of the bag before you hand it in. Which Wich sometimes even runs contests for the best “back of bag” design, with many being holiday related – so it’s fun to be creative! Some of the entries are very impressive. I’m no ‘artist,’ to be sure, so I put my dog’s name on the bag; that way I could keep an eye on it and know when they were going to call my name to pick up my Wich at the end of the line. Once it’s ready you receive your Wich from a very happy and helpful person, making the entire  experience from beginning to end a whole lot of fun!

Which Wich is a fantastically unique recipe that involves a combination of great food, great locations, and amazingly helpful people. The atmosphere is always friendly and the decor is clean, sleek and very NOW. There are ‘music listening’ and ‘newspaper reading stations’ around the Which Wich store, and free WiFi as well as a community bulletin board.

For loyal Which Wich followers it’s all about the “Vibe.” And if you join The Vibe Club, you receive the latest Which Wich promos and offers sent directly to your email…which is very cool.

In the end, Which Wich is as much about the community they serve as it is about the fantastic food. Each time I’ve visited a location they have never let me down – the food and the service have been great, the vibe has been consistently positive and the people in charge are always making a genuine effort to ensure that I leave their store a very happy customer.

What more could you want from a neighborhood sandwich shop? Get on board New England! You are seriously missing out!

We Are Still…All in This Together!

We Are Still…All in This Together! by Amy Lignor   December 7, 1941. Sunday morning was lovely on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
