Harrison Gallery, 825 White Street, will be open on October 20 from 6 – 8 pm for the Third Thursday Walk on White. Helen and Ben are most happy to announce the electronic launch of CHARLIE JONES, Ben’s post WW II generational novel set in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he grew up. “This is my first work of fiction and it was great fun making up characters, giving them personalities and deciding how they would act and react to situations I created for them.” It is available on Kindle. http://amzn.com/
Just in time for Halloween, Ben’s UNDYING LOVE, the true story of von Cosel’s passion that defied death, is now available as an e-book as well. http://amzn.com/
In the visual department the Harrisons are pleased to exhibit Vera Vasek’s “Walking Across the Atlantic.” This sculpture is from an ongoing tidal series that capture the ever-shifting sand of the back-country in what she calls, “Tidal Reliefs.” Vera’s creations begin as a collaboration with the weather and the fluctuating tidal flow. The plaster impressions that she makes from various sandbars not only document the movement of water, they evolve into something more epic.
This particular piece was scanned and then cut by computerized equipment at Studio Sem in Pietra Santa, Italy. The surfaces were cut with a diamond head on a programmed cutting machine, then acid treated to eat away the very lines left by the cutting machine. Sand blasted lightly to give it the texture of sand, the title of the sculpture is based on a poem by Billy Collins and is made of White Afyon, a rare Turkish marble crossed with onyx. 17″ x 22″ x 6″
