Top U.S. Trucking Companies

Robert Wilkes shares his list of the top five trucking companies in the United States. UPS Triple

The trucking industry helps drive the economy of the United States. From goods being shipped to stores to the transport of mailed items or removal of unwanted trash trucking companies are responsible for keeping every US industry running. Beyond that the companies also employ millions of Americans who fill our highways with trucks of all sizes providing this service. In the US there are a few trucking companies that stand out as tops among all others.

United Parcel Service

UPS, as it is known, is by far the highest-earning and largest-employing trucking service in the US. Emerging long ago as a top competitor to the Postal Service, UPS handles the shipment of mailed freight anywhere in the world with a primary focus on the US. Large trucks cross the country carrying the packages, which are then transferred into smaller trucks for delivery in towns and cities. All this combines to create a trucking company earning nearly 50-billion dollars annually.

Con-Way Inc.

More commonly referred to as Con-Way Transportation, this trucking company formed as an offshoot of Consolidated Freight, which was at one time one of the nation’s top trucking companies. Since the split Con-Way has persevered and covers freight transport nationwide. Nearly 30,000 Americans are employed by Con-Way, which is regarded as one of the more reliable nationwide freighter companies.

Yellow Freight System

Yellow Freight stands only behind UPS in terms of highest-earning trucking companies in the US. The company is actually an umbrella corporation for several trucking subsidiaries, all making up the Yellow Freight Empire. The company operates trucking freight services worldwide and also handles the logistics of freight shipment. In all it earns billions annually and employs tens of thousands.

Schneider

Schneider is the largest privately-held trucking company in the US. It handles both cross-country long haul freight and smaller regional trucking. Success with Schneider comes as a result of its partnership with thousands of other carriers to help handle large freight trucking operations. Through these partnerships Schneider has managed to gain contracts to ship items for many of the largest American corporations.

Roadway

Falling just below Schneider in terms of nationwide reach for trucking operations is Roadway, a division of LRL Freight. For years Roadway’s distinctive gray and orange trucks has criss-crossed the US delivering any type of freight imaginable. Its annual earnings and employment numbers are surpassed only by a few other trucking companies, and recent expansions have turned Roadway into a commercial shipping empire.

Without trucking companies the economic backbone of the United States would fall apart. Countless individuals and corporations rely on these companies to get packages and large freight to every corner of the nation on a daily basis. While there are dozens of trucking companies available that provide services to different sectors, there stand above all of them a select few corporations that have a truly nationwide reach. These top US trucking companies can haul anything anywhere at any time and they do it with fleets of trucks numbering in the thousands.

We Are Still…All in This Together!

We Are Still…All in This Together! by Amy Lignor   December 7, 1941. Sunday morning was lovely on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
