There are Still More Surprises to Come Before the Super Bowl Begins!

There are Still More Surprises to Come Before the Super Bowl Begins!

Okay, football fans… You may be smiling, you may be jumping for joy, or you may just be routing for a team that has caused the panic to set into your chest as you wonder if there’s a shot in heck that they can make it to the playoffs. Well…no worries, nothing is over until it’s over, and there are a great many teams that are not done and should never be counted out – as they have proven again and again during their franchise career.

Now, some things are set in stone, such as the fact that the Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals have clinched playoff spots no imgresmatter what. And when it comes to the AFC, the Houston Texans, Denver Broncos and New England Patriots are all good to go, yet they will still be playing their hearts out in order to get that must-have home field advantage and a first round bye.

Now it’s Houston that can clinch a first round bye with a simple win against the Colts next week; however, no win against the Colts will be simple in any way, shape or form. And they could just as easily lose the bye when going against such a remarkable team.

The Bengals – once a name that was laughed at in the NFL – have clinched a playoff spot and will be returning to the postseason by getting the job done against the Steelers yesterday, beating them 13-10.  The Bengals still have a shot at winning the AFC North, but in order to land that particular victory they desperately need Baltimore to go down hard and fast so they can claim the top spot.

Pittsburgh fans, unfortunately, have to say goodbye to their shot at the postseason. Although – quite frankly – they should blame the poor play of the Steelers this year on being blinded by those absolutely hideous uniforms. It is simply impossible to be counted among the best in the NFL when you walk around the field dressed like a giant bumble bee (and not the cool car from Transformers).

The Colts – to no one’s surprise – are also returning to the playoffs with their 23-10 win over the Chiefs. Perhaps it is the desire and determination they have for their beloved head coach, Chuck Pagano, who is battling leukemia, that has brought such inspiration to the team, that they simply refuse to lose. They want to truly to make him proud, and they most certainly have the power, skill and talent to do just that!

There is one surprise, however, that fans are taking as a swansong – a finale. They are literally counting this particular team out even though they have a history of being better and playing the best games of their lives when they are fighting to beat everyone else and grab onto that Super Bowl ring. What I mean by this is that NO ONE should count out the fact that the 49ers and Giants will once again go head-to-head in San Francisco to see which one will go to the Super Bowl.

Is that laughter I hear?  Think about it, people. You have laughed before in these situations – this exact situation, in fact. Everyone can continue to yap about the G-Men’s complete and utter failure in Atlanta last weekend when they were destroyed 34-0. Manning was simply not Manning, as he threw an interception on the very first drive that allowed Atlanta to simply walk down the field and score a touchdown. From missed field goal attempts to punts to interceptions – it was not the Giants’ day.

Yes, it was a huge game against a conference rival and the New York Giants literally appeared as if they were the New York Jets on that field. BUT…given the fact that the Gants were frankly brokenhearted, as was the rest of the country, over a hideous tragedy that had taken the lives of many innocent souls, it may have been that – and not football – that they were concentrating on. But with pain comes the renewed strength and courage to win.

This is not a never-before-seen route for the Giants on their way to a successful season. With Tom Coughlin at the helm and Eli Manning’s arm at the ready, the New York Giants have won and won big – when they NEEDED to. This is a team that has always shone when it came to being counted out; and with the playoff picture falling into place, this is one team that can NOT be counted out this time around. It would be absolutely no surprise to me, a 49ers fan, to see the two lifelong rivals meet yet again this year in another unforgettable battle to be the NFC’s best. Although, considering my allegiance, I hope that New York does fall when push comes to shove. But I will absolutely LOVE to see that battle commence.

Every year, we are ‘sure.’ Every year, we are ‘ready’ for the inevitable and have already ‘called’ and placed our money on the team that will most definitely win. And nine times out of ten…we’ve all been wrong. If anything, 2012 has been the season of upsets, surprises, failures and tremendous successes that were not foreseen at the beginning of the season. And even though everyone out there believes that a “Manning” will appear in the conference championship, they shouldn’t assume that both brothers won’t make it there.

I say…look out! Do not sit back and smile for too long because this is one season – one fight – that is definitely not over!Thi

Will NASCAR Theatrics Bring Back Viewers? by Amy Lignor   For any of the millions who once watched ABC’s Wide World of Sports and heard the words “the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat,” they remember the footage of a skier’s crash when it came to the “agony” side of things. E-Commerce Reigns by Amy Lignor   Despite consumer uncertainty, as well as a very sluggish beginning to 2017, the U.S. retail sales industry is projected to increase 4% this year.
