The Write Companion Helps Authors Celebrate the Holiday!

Over the last six months, The Write Companion has become a hugely popular editorial service for authors. Reason being, this is a company that was begun on a simple premise: Get authors published! Unlike most editorial companies, The Write Companion does not charge authors thousands of dollars to edit and polish a manuscript. In fact, the owner of The Write Companion began this company to stop things like that from happening.

Yes, we are a capitalist society – we all know that. And, yes, we are going through hugely upsetting economic times. BUT, jobs should still be done and done correctly. As a writer and a person who was the Editor-in-Chief of a publishing company for a time, as well as someone who worked in the literary industry, Ms. Lignor became extremely disappointed about the way that new author queries were being treated. Yes, there are millions of query letters coming in from all over the globe with new writers trying to get ‘discovered’ in every genre, and it is time consuming for any agency or publishing house to have to read through letter after letter to find that ‘golden nugget’ that is in the pile for them to represent. But it is so worth it! And there are those who have forgotten that fact and only see that ‘bottom line.’

One of the experiences that the owner has spoken about in the past is when she sent queries out regarding her own book, and received more than one ‘form’ response back right away. Now, this was not unexpected; all authors should know the responses that come back the first week are mostly all negative from publishers and literary agents who simply don’t have the time to read them and want to clear out their emails before the weekend. But then the stragglers begin to come in – some of them wish to see the first three chapters while others, out of the blue, start speaking about how much they want to publish the book and will do so for a low-cost figure of $10,000.

One letter will always stand out in her mind. It came from a literary agency that wrote back after reading the book saying glorious things about the work. The letter even stated that her book was the next DaVinci Code. Then, at the end of the letter, it was written that, although they loved every part of the book, they just didn’t like the character of Julie – she had ruined the whole novel for them. Oddly enough, there was not one single character named Julie – not even a character with the first initial J. Just to be a slight pain, and not actually expecting a response, she sent a letter back to the agency addressing this particular point. A response was made with a smiley face and other ‘cute’ little characters stating, “Oh, sorry. We don’t actually read them. We just fill in the name of the book and author and send it back. No hard feelings.”

Now, is this all literary agencies? No. Not at all. There are some truly stellar agencies out there that have been in the business for decades. They have found the ‘best of the best’ when it comes to writers, and they have solid reputations of loyalty and integrity. Then, as with all industries, there are the ‘rotten eggs.’ Unfortunately, those rotten eggs make a great many good authors throw their manuscripts in a drawer and forget about their dream. They simply believe wholeheartedly that if an agency doesn’t like them, then their book must surely be garbage.

Is this the agency’s fault only? No. Being an author takes a great deal of backbone, strength and courage. Taking on the role of writer is a lot like being the small ‘nerdy’ kid at school, with the rest of the kids teasing you because of the haircut your Mom made you get for the first day. But what everyone needs to remember is that those kids grow up to be the amazing Steve Jobs’ of the world. Whether they keep the haircut or not(and some do), these are the kids who laugh at the high school ‘stars’ that end up sitting on the couch with a beer in their hands listening to Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Glory Days.’

One of the most tremendously wonderful feelings for The Write Companion is when they can boast that the authors they have edited thus far have been published. In fact, in some cases, it took the author less than two months after getting their manuscripts edited to have a cover made and a book in production. These authors have publicists, websites, and The Write Companion standing behind them to help brand their names and introduce readers to their novels. And working with The Write Companion, per the authors who have, is a joy. Authors not only get editorial services and help, they also receive a very loyal friend to stand behind them and support them in their careers. They receive loyalty and integrity and they do not have to pay thousands of dollars for it.

It is the holiday season. It is time for peace, happiness and enjoyment – and it is a time for miracles. The Write Companion is so proud to be partners with authors who have found that strength inside of themselves to keep going and believe in their ‘works of art.’ And for the holiday season, The Write Companion is giving back. For any author who needs that manuscript polished, or help with their work in order to see their dream become a reality, The Write Companion is offering a deal of 40% off to all authors! Not to mention, TWC will also give interviews, articles and book reviews to all the authors under their umbrella for free – helping to brand them as much as humanly possible in order to get their name out there to the masses!

Life is short. Books are forever. And if you have something to say to the world, don’t be afraid to say it. TWC is truly excited to see your writing career take off!

Until Next Time, Everybody!
