The Guy Harvey Magazine: A Perfect Guide to a Stunning Ocean World

The Guy Harvey Magazine: A Perfect Guide to a Stunning Ocean World

It is not a stretch to say that Dr. Guy Harvey is truly the modern day version of Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Whereas Cousteau was the memorable French naval officer, explorer, conservationist, scientist and filmmaker, who studied the width and breadth of the sea;GH-Headshot-LR Harvey is the artist, marine biologist, author and filmmaker, who has also devoted his life to studying and protecting our oceans. Through the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and Guy Harvey Research Institute, Dr. Harvey now spearheads a massive network of scientists and ocean advocates who educate people on the need for marine conservation.

Harvey began his career as a college professor but transitioned to full time artist in 1986 when he sold out his very first art show. “At that point, I decided to spend as much time as possible on the water in order to study the sea creatures I was painting,” Harvey said.  “The shift toward conservation was natural. We all protect what we love.”

Since those early days Harvey’s marine art has been displayed on everything from t-shirts to skyscrapers and now in the pages of Guy Harvey Magazine. “The magazine and website (www.guyharveymagazine.com) were just another way for us to spread our message,” Harvey said. “The incredible photography and writing helps people to see the importance of protecting our amazing oceans.”

Born in West Germany, Harvey grew up in Jamaica, attending Aberdeen University in Scotland and graduating with the highest honors awarded in Marine Biology. Moving forward to achieve a Ph.D. in Fisheries Management from the University of the West Indies, this is one man who most definitely has dedicated his life to an extreme passion.  His words change minds; his artistic beauty has created legions of fans who clamor for his custom artwork; and his love of the sea has brought information to the forefront of the news so that more and more people will understand the dangers, needs, and the ultimate work necessary to take Mission_1_sharkcare of marine life around the globe.  The warm water marine sportfish is at the core of Guy Harvey’s art, realistically depicting the creatures in various poses within their natural habitats. From watercolor to oil to acrylic, the fine art created by this man’s mind never ends.  Add to this long resume: ‘Guy Harvey’s Portraits from the Deep’, a syndicated series that combines sport fishing destinations with educational information given from marine scientists to entertain and educate.

As an author, Guy Harvey has given the world a stunning book titled, ‘Guy Harvey Portraits From The Deep’, to engage and excite all lovers of the sea; as well as ‘Santiago’s Finest Hour’, which is an illustrated depiction of Hemingway’s well- known fight with a fish: “The Old Man and the Sea.”  Dedication to the environment, and being a true supporter and promoter of responsible and sustainable commercial and recreational fishing, Guy Harvey continues to fund research on the ecology, genetics, behavior, physiology, and evolution of fishes.  From shark to stingray ecology and conservation, to artificial reef design and monitoring, thisman continues to amaze.

And the man who helped transform the public’s appreciation for marine life and the ocean, also offers the most incredible magazine for readers who want nothing more than to learn and enjoy it all!
