The Green Register Says “Let There Be Light!”

The Green Register Says “Let There Be Light!”

The Green Register ‘talks’ about many things, and this week we are going to concentrate on the world of solar power.  Many readers are finding out exactly how amazing The Green Register is. They are a unique and knowledgeable online magazine that offers a wealth of information, articles, companies, services and products that allow all of us to find a way to ‘go green’ and save our planet.  From purchasing eco-friendly products to learning about amazing projects that companies are taking on all across the globe, The Green Register is opening doors and eyes to the huge amount of environmental issues and eco-friendly companies and products that are available out there.

This week, we are looking at a company called SPI which has put together some monumental projects, offering a unique approach to the operation of efficient and environmentally friendly photovoltaic (PV) solar systems for commercial and utility applications. This is a company that is a true leader in solar development – designing, engineering, constructing and installing complete PV solar energy facilities (SEF’s) that provide ‘onsite’ electricity production for industrial and commercial enterprises. They also develop utility-scale SEFs to provide electricity to power grids serving vast areas.

SPI works to develop and provide high-quality, low-cost turnkey photovoltaic SEFs for businesses.  And these SEFs are also custom-designed to meet the financial goals and energy requirements of all-size customers.

As individuals, of course, we can not accomplish the mammoth projects and large scale solar programs that SPI is accomplishing every day.  But we CAN start in our own way – walking in the footsteps of this giant, so to speak. We can learn about the design and development of these massive projects and see what innovation and hard work can do to save our environment. To see just a few of these outstanding projects you can visit the website (http://www.solarpowerinc.net), but today we’ll be discussing just a few.

Take Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation’s Los Angeles, California headquarters for instance.  The job was to design and build a rooftop system that would help to offset electricity costs and advance the motion picture company’s ‘sustainability initiative.’ Twentieth Century Fox, as everyone knows, has a truly rich history in this world.  Part of their heritage stems from the fact that they have been responsible for making some of the best films Hollywood has ever released.  They have also been known more recently as being a company that truly believes in helping the environment, and this latest project is actually the second time that Fox has invested major money into solar power.
SPI designed, engineered and installed a photovoltaic (PV) solar system at the Fox Studios lot in Century City, California. This installation utilized SPI’s innovative SkyMount® racking system.  And not only does it solve the issue, it’s also amazingly stunning to the ‘eye,’ and completely complements one of the building’s more prominent architectural features. The solar system mounted on the roof of Fox’s historic Building 99, is part of the company’s Global Energy Initiative.  The system has been successfully installed and is helping to power the motion picture company’s on-site energy requirements. So now when those lights come up and that Director screams action – solar power is what will help infuse that stage with the ultimate Hollywood magic!

There is a company located in Hazlet, New Jersey that also wished to have a PV rooftop.  Costco, if you have ever been inside one of these buildings that looks far larger than three states put together side-by-side, was registering annual electricity costs that were astronomical.  But by integrating that electricity with  Solyndra’s unique solar modules, the retailer was finally able to achieve its energy production goals, while maximizing use of available roof space.

SPI worked closely with Costco and Solyndra – a San Francisco bay area manufacturer of highly specialized solar modules – to design and install this amazing system.  Each one of the Solyndra panels uses multiple cylindrical modules which capture sunlight across a 360-degree photovoltaic surface – and they are capable of converting direct, diffuse and reflected sunlight into electricity.  This was the single largest commercial PV solar system ever constructed, and not only was this undertaking completed on schedule, it is now serving a major portion of the retail warehouse’s daily electrical needs. SPI was awarded first place for the quality and innovation of the system’s design and installation in the 2010 Excellence in Renewable Energy awards in the Renewable Energy World Network awards competition.

Yet another amazing building that almost every American knows by sight is AEG’s world famous STAPLES Center and Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California. This is the place with a $375 million-dollar price tag that is home to some of the most stunning sports events and concerts this world has ever seen. This one arena plays home to the NBA teams, the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, as well as the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL. Add in the fact that they are also home to the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA, and have hosted hundreds of events and nearly 4,000,000 visitors a year, then you know that this was a truly big and important project to take on.

For this initiative, the goal was to maximize electrical generation while adhering to strict weight limitations, not to mention the fact that these buildings are iconic and the branding on their rooftops had to stay in place and be ‘complemented’ by the new installation.

The SkyMount® racking system was selected for this job – which are low weight panels that enable minimal rooftop penetrations and rapid installation, providing Los Angeles with the exact solution they needed. Not to mention, the rooftop logos attract even more attention during major events!

There are so many vast projects going on in the world of solar power it is almost impossible to name them all, but each and every one of us should be aware of the monumental strides that companies are taking to save this planet and save our energy!

Eco-friendly designs are a large part of The Green Register and the amazing businesses, companies, products and services they support. The Green Register is literally the perfect ‘one-stop source’ for everything about our environment. Here, all readers can learn how to keep our planet running efficiently and CLEANLY for future generations to thoroughly enjoy!

Let us all think about following in the footsteps of these giants – we’ll definitely be proud knowing that we did our ‘small’ part for the ‘big’ picture!

Until Next Time, Everybody!

The day of mourning, the day after the day of.  I beseech the sky to shed tears in order to wash away the tears on my face.   This is the first day of the time after. This is the beginning of a new time, the days of pain, the days of sorrow. We are in mourning. The sky looks down and sheds its tears for … [Read More its Good For You...]

History Being Sold to the Highest Bidder

History Being Sold to the Highest Bidder by Amy Lignor   For the longest time, scientists and archaeologists have been confused and bemused by various discoveries they’ve unearthed that offer little or no explanation as to the who, what, and why of the people who created these things or left them behind. Even now, in 2017, there are discoveries being studied; stories that were once legends now have actual bits of proof being found that … [Read More its Good for You.....]

Carolina Skiff at Miami’s Favorite Boat Show

Carolina Skiff at Miami's Favorite Boat Show By Craig Lamb You might say “new” is a reoccurring theme of Miami’s favorite boat show coming up soon. A new location with hundreds of new boats, including never-before-seen models being debuted by Carolina Skiff, is a great way to kick off the season. Few boat shows offer buyers the chance to see new boats where they ultimately belong—floating on the water in a real time setting. You can … [Read More its Good for You...]

Can Troy Aikman Win MVP?

Can Troy Aikman Win MVP? by Amy Lignor   What a strange title for an article, aye? Of course the ‘old man’ of the Dallas Cowboys can’t win MVP. Troy Aikman was an elite QB, with three Super Bowl rings to prove that fact. However, Aikman hasn’t actually suited-up since leaving behind his Cowboys uniform in 2001. The number one overall draft pick in 1989, Aikman was the MVP of Super Bowl XXVII, and was elected to the Pro Football … [Read More its Good for You...]
