Construction to renovate the air filtration system and expand the housing area for cats at the St. Johns County Pet Adoption Center will begin February 18. The renovation will ensure a higher-quality air flow throughout the building, providing a cleaner environment for the animals housed at the shelter.
The construction project will create a temporary shortage of space within the center in which to house animals. St. Johns County Animal Control (SJCAC) is asking the public to assist the shelter by considering adopting one of the many wonderful dogs and cats currently available for adoption. Adoption fees are $60 for dogs, which includes age appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter, and a heartworm test. The $30 adoption fee for cats includes age appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter, and a feline aids/leukemia test. Prior to and during the construction period, two cats can be adopted for the price of one.
SJCAC is also recommending that any owner considering relinquishing their pet during this time either contact local rescues and other adoption centers prior to bringing their pet to the shelter or wait until after the construction is completed to help compensate for the space shortage.
Construction is scheduled to be complete in April. The Pet Adoption Center will remain open during regular scheduled hours during the construction period. Adoption viewing hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
