St. Johns County Junior Lifeguard Program

St. Johns County Fire Rescue announces registration opening for the 2013 Jr. Lifeguard program.  Registration will begin starting Friday, March 22, 2013.  Students will be registered for the program on a 1st come 1st serve basis. 

Registration confirmation will not be completed until the student passes the swim evaluation and provides payment during one of the two posted evaluation dates.  During pre-registration students are only required to turn in the completed registration paperwork. 

The purpose of the St. Johns County Junior Lifeguard Program is to increase self-confidence and promote safe behavior in the aquatic SJCFR Marine Rescue Divisionenvironment. Throughout the course students will acquire a wide range of skills including first-aid, CPR and rescue techniques. Throughout the program, safety is our primary consideration.  During the program, each student will be challenged to have fun, become more confident in the water, and learn respect for themselves and each other.

Times:
 Monday thru Friday 9:00am to 1:00pm

2011 Session Dates:

  • Session I:  July 8-12th    
  • Session II: July 15-19th
  • Session III: July 22-26th

Maximum of 20 per session

 

Location: Classes will meet at Marine Rescue Headquarters near the pier and next to Fire Station 7.

Requirements: Open to boys and girls ages 9-17. Applicants must possess a basic swimming ability and be able to pass the following skills assessment.

Swim 100 yds.
Swim 10 yds. under water
Tread Water for 5 minutes

 

Tryouts:

Both Tryouts will be held at: 
Solomon Calhoun Community Center pool
1300 Duval St, St. Augustine
May 18th at 10am
May 19th at 10am

May 25th at 10am

How to Enroll: Parents must fill out registration forms provided online or by contacting our office.

Registration:  Participants will not be officially registered until the tryout is completed and fee has been paid.

Enrollment Fee: $150 for all Junior Lifeguard Participants. Each additional child will receive a $5 discount, and each additional session will receive a $5 discount.
