St. Johns County Junior Lifeguard Program

 

 

St. Johns County Fire Rescue announces camp dates and registration details for the 2014 Jr. Lifeguard program.  Registration will be held in conjunction with program tryouts which are scheduled for March 8th, 15th and 22nd at the Solomon Calhoun Pool located at1300 Duval Street in St. Augustine.  All tryouts will begin at 10am. 

Students will be registered for the program on a 1st come 1st serve basis after successful completion of the tryout.  Prospective campers must bring registration paperwork and payment to the tryout in order to reserve a spot in the summer sessions. 

The purpose of the St. Johns County Junior Lifeguard Program is to increase self-confidence and promote safe behavior in the aquatic environment. St_Johns_County1Throughout the course students will acquire a wide range of skills including first-aid, CPR and rescue techniques. Throughout the program, safety is our primary consideration.  During the program, each student will be challenged to have fun, become more confident in the water, and learn respect for themselves and each other.

Times:
 Monday thru Friday 9:00am to 1:00pm

2014 Session Dates:

  • Session I:  June 23 – 27  
  • Session II: July 7-11
  • Session III: July 14-18

Maximum of 20 students per session

Location: Classes will meet at Marine Rescue Headquarters near the pier and next to Fire Station 7.

Requirements: Open to boys and girls ages 9-17. Applicants must possess a basic swimming ability and be able to pass the following skills assessment.

Swim 100 yds.
Swim 10 yds. under water
Tread Water for 5 minutes

Registration:  Participants will be registered on a 1st come basis on the scheduled tryout dates after successfully completing the swim qualification, completing the registration paperwork and submitting payment.

Enrollment Fee: $150 for all Junior Lifeguard Participants. Each additional child will receive a $5 discount, and each additional session will receive a $5 discount.
