St. Johns County Fire Rescue responded to residential structure fire this morning at approximately 05:45 AM in the 1900 block of Carter Rd.. Units responding to the fire were Engine 14, Engine 12, Engine 16, Haz-Mat 16, Squad 5, Rescue 14, Tanker 4, Tanker 8, Tanker 14, Battalion 2 and Battalion 3.
First arriving units reported the home was fully involved and noted a person on ground outside the residence. Firefighters removed the victim from the yard and transported the victim to the hospital. Crews conducted an aggressive attack however during the operation a 250 lb. Propane tank began to vent slowing down efforts. St. Johns County Fire Rescue Haz-Mat was able to secure the propane tank while crews continued to attack the fire. The incident was deemed under control at 06:10 AM.
Crews remained on scene for several hours to complete salvage and overhaul and assist the Fire Marshal’s Office with the investigation. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
