Incident Type: Commercial Structure Fire
St. Johns County Fire Rescue (SJCFR) responded to a reported commercial structure fire in the 2000 block of US1
South the Bono’s Barbeque at approximately 11 pm Monday. Upon arrival on scene crews found flames showing from the chimney of the structure and within the interior of the restaurant. At the time of the fire the business was closed, so initial reports were that the structure was unoccupied.
Initial arriving crews forced entry into the business and began an aggressive attack on the fire which was located in the barbeque pit area of the restaurant. With this rapid attack, crews were able to knock down and contain the fire within minutes of arrival limiting fire damage to the immediate cooking area and chimney of the structure. Once the fire was contained, crews completed a search of the structure confirming it was unoccupied, and assisted salvage and overhaul of the business. Crews remained on scene for several hours working to ventilate smoke from the structure and assist in the removal of debris.
There were no injuries reported during this incent, and
the cause of the fire is under investigation by the SJCFR Fire Marshals Office. Inquires into the status of the business should be directed to Bono’s Barbeque.
