Gainesville based alternative and southern rock band Sister Hazel returns for a second time to perform at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on Friday, March 8th.
Formed in 1993, Sister Hazel named themselves after a local nun in Gainesville who ran a homeless shelter, Sister Hazel Williams. Through their independent record label Croakin’ Poets, Sister Hazel released its self-titled debut album in 1994. The bands most successful single, “All For You” released on their 1997 album …Somewhere More Familiar, hit No. 1 on Adult Top 40, No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the album went on to become certified platinum. The bands success continued with Fortress and hits“Champagne High” and “Change Your Mind” contributed to the album being certified gold. In 2009, Ford Motor Company collaborated with Sister Hazel to promote the company’s Sync technology featured in a number of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. Their music has been featured in several movies including: Major League: Back to the Minors, The Wedding Planner, Bedazzled, and 10 Things I Hate About You. The band also appeared on a tribute album to the legendary band Fleetwood Mac with their cover version of “Gold Dust Women”. They have released a total of eight albums with the latest Heartland Highwayreleased October 2010 with their most recent single being “Stay Awhile”.
