Recession/Depression Defined

Recession/Depression Defined

Carolyn Walker

Definition: Recession: when your neighbor loses their job

Definition: Depression: when you lose your job

While this may be a tongue and cheek definition, the reality of our economy seems to be an uneven recovery. According to the Wall Street Journal, (Monday April 1, 2013) 14 cities now have more jobs than they did before the 2008-2009 recession.  Further, the WSJ reported that nationally there three million fewer jobs in February, or 2% less than when employment peaked in January 2008. The latest figures suggest retirees reduce withdrawals from retirement savings from 4% down to 3%. The result? Boomers are taking part time jobs, starting businesses, moonlighting in their former profession. Not a bad idea, since 60 is the new 50 and 70 is the new 60. People who develop 55+ communities are well aware of this fact: their communities are filled with dozens and dozens of activities. The other reality; it all costs money.

Enter Relationship Marketing. It offers unlimited income potential, flexible work hours, part time or full time, a 30 second commute to their home office, ability to set their own hours and to travel and vacation whenever they want. The bull’s eye for this industry is anti-aging in the hot area of beauty. And Boomers certainly do not want to look like their parents did when they were in their 60’s. This goes for both men and women. Nerium has created the perfect storm- a business that both men and women can build from home with a product that both men and women love. Further, they have stepped out in the industry as a leader in innovation. Nerium’s support and investment in their Brand Partner’s businesses is unprecedented. Nerium restocks their Brand Partners inventory through 2 ground breaking programs that are unique in the industry. The facts speak for themselves: their first full year in business, Nerium did $ 100 million and landed in the top 1% of the industry, coming in at #72 out of the Top 100 from an industry of over 10,000 companies. One year, one product, one country…  Imagine where they will be with international expansion and additional products.

Will NASCAR Theatrics Bring Back Viewers? by Amy Lignor   For any of the millions who once watched ABC’s Wide World of Sports and heard the words “the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat,” they remember the footage of a skier’s crash when it came to the “agony” side of things.   How Are Retail Sales in 2017? E-Commerce Reigns by Amy Lignor   Despite consumer uncertainty, as well as a very sluggish beginning to 2017, the U.S. retail sales industry is projected to increase 4% this year.
