No More Shims: The Quick Door Hanger Forever Changed The Way Interior Doors Get Installed

If you had an opportunity to cut your labor time by as much as 80% without sacrificing quality – and with a good chance the quality of your work would go up – would you take it?

3 hinge bag with bracket smThat’s been the proposition behind Express Products’ Quick Door Hanger ever since the young company first brought their revolutionary product to market, according to Ryan Gill – and the more people that get a chance to try it, the more it appears installing interior doors with shims is going the way of the dodo.

“Typically a professional builder will take about 23 minutes, on average, to install a door using shims,” said Gill. “Some will do it faster, of course. With our product we have builders who average right around three minutes to install a door. It’s a real time saver.”

The Quick Door Hanger kit lives up to its name; inside the bag are six metal brackets and a handful of screws, enough to install a pre-hung interior door – both single or double/French doors. Once the brackets are attached to the door frame, it takes just moments to install, and the final result is a perfectly plumb door – without the back-and-forth of shimming, and without a single nail being put through the door jamb (so no nail holes to patch). The Quick Door Hanger kit is available at nearly all Home Depot locations in the interior door aisle for roughly the same cost as a pack of shims.

“Every single time they hang a door, they can get it absolutely perfect – perfect margins and reveals,” said Gill. “This product allows them to do it so simply.”

When they first introduced the Quick Door Hanger, Gill said, they originally thought it would probably be most popular for the DIY crowd. “Most homeowners who try to install their own door find it takes them about 3-4 hours using shims,” he said. “Oftentimes they don’t ever get it right and give up, or it’s just hung poorly.”

With the Quick Door Hanger, Gill added, a typical inexperienced homeowner can install their first interior door ever in just around 30 minutes. But it turned out the biggest market for the product was waiting in the professional building arena, where residential builders have embraced the speed and accuracy in a big way.

“The labor savings for these guys can really add up,” said Gill. “We have companies who buy 3,000 doors’ worth at a time – for a brand-new condo install, for example. At 3-4 minutes per door as opposed to 23, they save literally thousands in labor.”

“We go to trade shows all the time,” said Gill, “and we have a lot of builders who walk up to us and say they saw our product at Home Depot and gave it a try – and now they and all their builder friends always keep a box of ’em in the trunk.”

Located in the interior door aisle of most Home Depot locations, The Quick Door Hanger is available as a single door kit and also as a 10-door contractor box. The product is also available on HomeDepot.com.
