Manning & Brady: Side-by-Side Once Again

 by Amy Lignor

Yes, we all know the Broncos and the Patriots are two of the best in the NFL. We also all understand the fact (or should) that Manning and Brady are the two QB’s who have a great deal of skill, elegance, and fire on the football field. They can lose a game, yet they don’t seem to worry about it the next week. They simply head out on the field with their experience and win.

Yesterday, once again, Manning and Brady were called out by the experts. This time around it was for yet another record being broken. Peyton Manning succeeded in breaking the NFL record for most touchdown passes in a season when he tossed his 51st for 0QB_s640x427the year. This knocked Tom Brady’s amazing season of 50 TD’s down to the number two spot.

His teammates knew what Manning had done. And although Manning never pats himself on the back (at least, not often), the rest of his team offered their congrats to the man. It was less than three minutes before that he’d tied the record, so passing the record was not exactly a shocker to anyone’s system. After all, when Manning’s ‘on’ he’s proven he could pretty much pass 50 TD’s in only one game if the clock ran a little slower.

After the congrats, Peyton pumped his fist in the air (only once – not overly vain), and took the high-fives offered. What this football fan chooses to believe is that he waited until the evening hours to call up Brady and give him a big, “In your face, pal!” before heading off to bed. Of course, Brady would have been smiling as well, letting Manning know that next season would be a whole new shooting match.

There are criticisms and cynicisms when it comes to every player and every team in the NFL. From legal issues to fights in cyber-world to the simplest things like fighting on the field out of pure frustration when you’re so close to the post-season that you can almost smell the Lombardi trophy waiting there for you to succeed. But it is always a great thing to see someone who has worked a very long time and proved to be one of the best of the best to ever play the game, take a record from a player that is…exactly like they are.

When it comes to Manning and Brady (and, you should know, I route for neither of these teams so this is absolutely from the heart), I have been and will continue to be impressed.

Establishing yourself in the NFL takes a while, to say the least. But these are two players who have managed to not only establish their skill set and put fear into the heads of their opponents, but they have also done a wonderful job over the years of establishing their character.

My advice? There are a great many teams out there, and a great many players, who would do extremely well to remember that poise is a necessary talent to have in the QB position, not to mention the rest of the positions.

Congrats Peyton. I have a feeling that your name and Brady’s in the same sentence will be stated again before this year is up. Perhaps, when it’s time for the AFC Championship to be played.

Until Next Time, Everybody,

Amy

The Season Begins by Amy Lignor   Yes, it’s finally time to get down to some real business when it comes to the world of sports. Now, however, people are searching for places to travel where legends still exist, and … [Read More its Good for You...]
