Is Tiger Bad Luck?
Of course not! Tiger basically brings bad luck only to himself; he’s proven that over the years. But it must have truly hurt when his girlfriend (sorry, ‘rumored’ girlfriend), U.S. skier Lindsey Vonn, seriously injured her right knee during what you would call a brutal crash when she was in Austria competing at the World Alpine Skiing Championships. Airlifted to a local hospital, Lindsey was diagnosed with a torn ACL and MCL. (Everybody say OUCH!)
Now for those who don’t know her, Lindsey Vonn is a true World Champion. You are talking about a World Cup alpine skier who competed with the United States Ski Team. And when I say World Champion skier, I’m not over-exaggerating. Four overall World Cup championships have been won by Lindsey Vonn and she is only one of two female skiers who have been able to accomplish that amazing feat.
In addition to those World Cup Championships, Lindsey can also claim a gold medal win in downhill at the 2010 Winter Olympic games – which was the first gold medal ever won in this particular event by an American woman. Are we done yet? Nope. Lindsey has also racked up five consecutive World Cup season titles in downhill, four consecutive in Super G and three consecutive in the combined. And she’s not done yet. Well…hopefully she’s not.
From downhill to Super G – giant slalom, slalom and super combined – Lindsey has won 59 World Cup races throughout her entire career, making her the most successful American skier in history. I know it may sound odd to list all of these accolades after saying she took a fall. But, let’s face it, for a skier who has won this much and competed in this many races over the years, it was bound to happen at some point.
According to news outlets, it was the weather that was the key factor in the fall. Because of intense snowfall, it was impossible to train or race on the hill. Add to that the fact that when the snow stopped the rain hit, which made the entire hillside an accident just waiting to happen.
Although many say this is still a ‘rumor,’ considering the fact that most sports rumors are true, Lindsey IS the girlfriend of Tiger Woods. Now, prior to this race, Vonn was bright, happy and giggling when she was interviewed and declined to answer the question of whether or not she was dating the legendary golf star.
In her own personal history, Lindsey went through a divorce in 2011, leaving behind her husband – another United States skier, Thomas Vonn. Although Lindsey is a bit of a mirror image when placed beside the blonde ex-wife of Tiger Woods who left him amid the sports scandal of a lifetime, Lindsey seems like she could take Tiger out if she wanted to. In other words, she’s been surrounded by a great many ‘sports’ egos during her lifetime and certainly understands how to handle them.
The latest info (because the paparazzi is SO not going to let this one go anytime soon), is that Tiger didn’t play in this past week’s PGA Tour stop – the Pebble Beach Pro-Am – most likely because he rode in his private jet which – surprise! – went straight to Austria. The ‘king’ of the annoying ones – TMZ – did get a shot of the private jet and Lindsey boarding it in order to escape from Austria and nurse her knee – but no one quite knows if the golfer was waiting inside. (duh).
The worst part for Lindsey is that she’s looking at eight month’s rehabilitation (at the very least) which could have her available (if all goes well) to compete at the 2014 Olympics being held in Sochi. Although whatever happens, she has stated that she will represent the U.S. at the Games one way or another.
Heading to Vail, Colorado, Lindsey will undergo surgery on her knee early in the week. And, oddly enough, the chick is still smiling! That should be quite a change for Tiger. A smile is something he hasn’t seen in a good, long time. Perhaps these two sports pros can help each other get through the tough times and ‘begin’ again. We’ll just all have to wait and see. Except TMZ, who will literally attach themselves to the private jet if need be in order to get the ‘scoop.’
