How I Found Meaning In My Life After Divorce

How I Found Meaning In My Life After Divorce

by Betsy Smith

Getting divorced with young kids can be lonely in many ways.  And it can be very scary.  Knowing that after many years of being an at home mom I was going to have to find a way to make a living.  In many ways I was not exactly sure who I was anymore.

After a few years floundering around and trying a few careers I found the industry of relationship marketing.  I fell in love quickly for many reasons.  There was the flexibility; I could work around my kid’s schedule.  There was the camaraderie; I found new friends.  And there was the personal development; I began to find myself.

I gained confidence in myself as a person and also in business.  I realized that one of my strengths was working with people as a connector and mentor.  I also learned self-discipline.  Working from home can be a challenge.  I had always had a fear of speaking in front of a crowd, yet found myself speaking in front of a few thousand.  I surprised myself in so many ways.

And when I found my current company the personal development hit a new level.  First, Jeff Olson, our CEO is a best selling author.  He wrote a book called The Slight Edge about the little choices you make every day that over time make up who you are, for better or worse.  And because personal development is so important to him it is a huge focus at Nerium International.

We have an entire library of personal development videos in our back office always at our access.  We are encouraged to listen to or read something every single day.   Just 10 pages of a good book or a short video every day consistently over a year changes who you are..

Most importantly, being able to be part of helping others “find” themselves, find the better part of themselves and succeed in ways they never dreamed is so much FUN!  Helping others make money when they were not sure they could is rewarding. We talk about the Nerium Ripple which is the ripple that we cause as we do the right thing, as we impact others and create a better world.  And we are seeing ripples across the country.
