Historic Bed & Breakfast Gets New Owners

The Bayfront Marin House in St. Augustine has new owners, Mike and Sandy Wieber. Realizing their dream of purchasing an historic bed & breakfast, they are both excited about their ‘new baby’. “We feel very lucky to have found this property,” states Mike. “The views are incredible and the people who work here are fantastic, including the best southern cook we’ve ever met ~ Mary Berman. We can’t wait to share the Bayfront Marin House with our guests from around the world”.

An inn from two centuries, the Bayfront Marin is actually several houses that were joined together over 200+ years. The front of the structure is Victorian era (circa late 1800’s) with the oldest section dating to the 1780’s. Today it offers guests 15 unique rooms ~ from the original coquina walls in the oldest section to the newer Victorian accommodations. There is a room for everyone, all elegantly decorated with many looking out to the Matanzas River and famed St. Augustine Lighthouse.

Married for 17 years, the Wiebers knew early in their marriage that they both loved the charm and history of old homes in need of TLC. They began purchasing and restoring vintage properties: two in Cape May, NJ and one in Galveston, TX ~ in addition to their own home in Baltimore, MD. Once they were complete, they rented each property to vacationing families looking for a unique trip, hosting hundreds of families during the years. They have enjoyed helping guests plan weddings, surprise birthdays and family reunions.

They worked toward owning their own bed & breakfast for many years. “We love the old buildings,” confirms Sandy, “and it is so much fun working with people who love historic properties too. We really think that special people stay in their special homes and we enjoy meeting all of them.”

With a distinct sense of humor, the Wieber’s like to confess that this is year fourteen of a five year plan! It took them a little longer to find their ideal bed & breakfast than expected. But both agree that the Bayfront Marin is ‘the one’. “When we first came to St. Augustine, we were blown away with the architecture and grand old buildings. And after last year’s 48” of snow over three days in Baltimore, this beautiful warm and friendly city is exactly where we belong” says Sandy.

The Bayfront Marin House is different from many of the historic inns in America’s oldest city; they welcome small pets and are child-friendly. Breakfast is individually prepared to order each morning. Guests select their entrees the night before as well as where they would like to dine – in the gazebo, on a verandah, in the cozy dining room or even in bed!

A member of the exclusive www.InnsofElegance.com , the Bayfront Marin House is looking forward to the upcoming holiday season. The Inn’s popular happy hour is continuing with homemade sangria and hors d’oeuvres. With its privileged location on the Intracoastal Waterway, the sunrise, sailboats and shorebirds are a perfect match for this romantic, beautifully appointed historic lady. After only two weeks as new owners, the Wieber’s are quickly settling into the leisurely pace of the city and relaxed ambience in their beautiful new bed & breakfast.
