Having a Caring Companion Enhances the Holiday Season!

Having a Caring Companion Enhances the Holiday Season!

As we age, the holiday season can go from a ‘celebration with the family’ to a time of loneliness, as we lose our enthusiasm with the loss of our loved ones.

Many people will say that the holidays center around children, but with college, jobs, and moving across the country to begin their own ‘family’ units, seniors end up feeling truly alone. There is no more decorating the tree, cooking a big meal, hearing the laughter as the children open up their toys and games and shout to the heavens because they just received that baseball glove they always wanted (of course, now it’s the SONY Playstation).  Memories change, people are lost, and others are simply too far away to travel.

This is when a time in life can look bleak.  Some seniors do not even wish to decorate for the holidays seeing as that it will only be them who are celebrating this year.  So situations arise where the holidays simply pass by and seniors end up feeling depressed and forgotten.  This is truly a time where having a Caring Companion by your side can transform that depression into the celebration that the holidays were meant to be.

ADL Caring Companions is the company we have been spotlighting for the last few months, and it has become one of the most talked about organizations on the internet.  This is not a surprise, considering ADL Caring Companions is a company that was created from the heart of a man who, through his own family experiences, knew that seniors should be able to stay in their own homes as long as possible.  This man also knew that seniors should have people beside them who not only helped with daily chores such as light laundry, housekeeping, doling out medications, and driving clients to appointments – but who were also there to simply be a friend.

And right now, during the holidays, is one of the most important times in life where people truly need others around them.  They need to laugh, enjoy and look forward to the next year coming up with excitement.  Being alone and missing your family, as well as the loved ones who have already left the earth, is incredibly hard.  Your mind runs back through the years of memories you have stored up where the members of the family shared, laughed, and loved.  Being alone simply brings all these memories back and can break your heart, missing the times that ‘were,’ instead of thinking about the times that ‘will be.’

ADL Caring Companions has proven itself to be unique, for the simple fact that they pair clients with a caregiver who will best suit their needs.  They make sure that the best companion is given to their clients who will become a part of the household and a true friend who cares.  In fact, ADL Caring Companions is known for having a ‘team’ that forms significant bonds with their clients while bringing back the joy and fun of life and driving the loneliness away.  It is a proven fact that all human beings need someone to talk to; they need someone to spend time with so that they realize how truly essential they are to the world around them.

Celebration is a part of living, so we must all keep our elders engaged and happy. There are many places like senior centers that have activities for the holidays.  The scents and sounds of Thanksgiving and Christmas are comforting, and they bring about true magic and joy for everyone.  From the smell of hot chocolate with cinnamon, to seeing the hope and awe in a child’s eyes, there are many senior activities that bring back these feelings of magic. In addition, people need to realize that spending time with our elders is not an inconvenience – it is a true honor.  These are the people who have not only loved and taken care of us, but they are the ones with the ‘stories.’  One of the very best things in life is being able to listen to those stories. The seniors in our lives have seen it, done it, and lived it; they know the ins-and-outs of history and they can share this with us.  We can learn about what things used to be like – when there was no internet or cell phones – just families working together and staying together because that was what a true family did.

If you have elders like mine than you, too, can listen to your grandfather tell stories of the schoolhouse he used to learn at.  He could tell about the harsh winters where he would come inside and the fire would be lit. The stockings (real ones) did actually hang from the chimney with care. The tree was always real and the house smelled like that beautiful evergreen scent that a large percentage of us now get from an aerosol can or a scented candle.  He could tell about his mom’s hot chocolate (real) and homemade cookies (heaven on a plate); and how he and his siblings would talk about the amazing days coming up and the hope they had for the next year that was about to arrive.  This was a family.  And thankfully, for me, mine never changed.  (Although I will never have a cookie as good as my grandmother’s again).

The holidays are the time to run to our elders and relax.  It is a time to hear the stories, live the memories, and be a part of making even more stories that we can tell our own children one day.  But for those who do not have the family members near, a Caring Companion can be a huge part of this holiday season – a new friend that will become an old friend when 2012 comes around.

ADL Caring Companions is the company that thinks of important issues like this, who has the staff that are made up of people with big hearts who want that holiday cheer with their new friend.

Busy lives occur, times change, issues come up – but the one thing that doesn’t change is the fact that all people, especially during the holiday season, need to be reminded that they are a very important part of life, and that there is so much more life to come.

Whether you wish to hire an ADL Caring Companion, or you wish to improve the lives of the people in your very own ‘backyard’ by opening an ADL Caring Companions’ franchiseTis’ the Season to Begin!

Until Next Time, Everybody.
