Hauling Moose is Difficult: And That’s No Bull

Hauling Moose is Difficult: And That’s No Bull

by ZZ Troutski

Hunting’s a Drag, Inc. is the company hunters are turning to when it comes to elite transportation. After all, getting that perfect shot – bagging and tagging moose – is not an easy task. But when you add on the fact that once the triumphant day is over and you have to find a way to get the creature into your truck, real pain begins. Without a Game Sled, it’s nearly impossible.

The Game Sled line are gurneys that have been created by the innovative minds at Hunting’s a Drag, Inc. that make transportation from the woods to your vehicle far easier. Made to help keep the hunter’s muscles from wear and tear, the Original Game SledGame Sled also protects the animal’s coat as well as the surrounding habitat, so that when huge prey is captured attempting to drag it over hills, valleys, forest floors, etc., will not cause harm to the native vegetation.

Although the whitetail is certainly still the most popular hunt, moose is the species that avid hunters want to attain. The huge species roams many parts of the Western Hemisphere, but the Alaska bulls are a huge favorite.

Alaska is all about the chilly remoteness of the area. Even with a hunting guide, etc., the hunter still feels as if they are the lone pioneer, scanning the tundra for that one moose that will earn them a trophy, as well as a memory that will never be forgotten.

The best way to get the chance to hunt Alaska bulls is to make sure to be as patient as possible; patient enough to wait till you draw. You are talking extremely high prices when it comes to Alaska, and the plane flights are expensive. Getting to those remote locations are just as expensive as getting the moose back out.

Giant Moose is another name for Alaskan Moose and rightly so, seeing as that it’s the largest subspecies of moose available. And when speaking about remote locations, the boreal and mixed deciduous forests that are found throughout most of Alaska are excellent hiding places. Usually a lone creature, it is not unheard of for Alaska Moose to form small herds after coming in contact with other moose during mating season. These creatures are also highly competitive when it comes to not only fighting other bulls, but also attacking anyone or anything that startles them in their habitat.

The isolated forests do provide a good veil of cover from the wolf, not to mention that avid hunter – which means the huge population that is over two hundred thousand is always being controlled with hunter access every fall and winter.

For those who aren’t quite sure what ‘giant’ is when talking about the Alaska Moose – this is one species where the bull can weigh over 1,200 pounds, with an antler-span of six feet or more. It was the Irish elk that was once the grandest species (now extinct), and the Alaska Moose is the only one that’s even close to that species, giving them the title of ‘the largest deer of all time.’

Oddly enough, moose die of starvation a great deal during mating season, as two bulls get their antlers locked during a fight causing them to be trapped. And if the bull loses to another male, it is ingrained that he will literally have to wait another year to mate.

Hunted for both food and sport, Alaska Moose are extremely difficult to bring down. From guns to bows, even a high-powered rifle may not cause them to fall. A little history? The largest Alaska Moose shot on record was in western Yukon back in 1897; it weighed 1,800 pounds.

Although…for a female moose that can weigh in at anything from 800-1,000 pounds (some even larger), The Safari Edition Game Sled is incredibly strong and allows the hunter to remove the largest North American game over obstacles that would stop other deer and game drags dead in their tracks.

On record for this incredible product is a 960 pound moose, which was extracted with the Safari Sled. By using the device, the normal 6-hour extraction process took only forty-five minutes!

There is a lot of grey area when it comes to hunting and killing moose, but the one thing that will always remain true is: Game Sled is the one product needed on that hunt that’s absolutely essential.

We Are Still…All in This Together! by Amy Lignor   December 7, 1941. Sunday morning was lovely on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
