Game Sled Takes a Look at the Pronghorn

Game Sled Takes a Look at the Pronghorn

 ZZ Troutski

The whitetail is consistently the number one choice for the hunter – being the most popular game animal across North America. However, the pronghorn is a species that’s highly interesting to the hunter because of their look, skill and prowess for outrunning predators.

Hunting’s a Drag, Inc. is a company that’s always watching the animal kingdom, so to speak. Their innovative minds are constantly keeping ahead of the herd when it comes to meeting the extraction needs of the hunter, and protecting the habitat at the same time. The Game Sled was the original Pronghorn-Road Trekin Adventures-Free 2 Be-tm-content-travel-marketing-advertising-Roadtrek-gurney they created that actually awed the hunting community. A lightweight (six pound) gurney that could literally extract a creature up to four hundred pounds; this popular and essential hunting item brought about the creation of other varieties of Game Sleds, including a Safari Game Sled to extract big game.

The Game Sled enables the extraction of a creature to be easy and time-saving. Built to not cause harm and damage to the surrounding landscape, this is the hunter’s ‘must-have.’ Reliable, durable and tough – the Game Sled line is unique. And when talking about gear that’s unique, looking at game that’s also unique seems fitting.

The pronghorn resembles the antelopes of the ‘Old World’ but have had a long time to evolve. This creature actually existed all the way back to the Pleistocene era, with certain ‘types’ now being extinct.

The horns are what make this creature stand out. Growing from the skull, the horns are actually slender, flattened blades of bone covered with a pelt/skin that’s shed and re-grown on an annual basis.

The horns are amazing to look at, with the males being extremely prominent. But it’s their wide, large black eyes allowing them a 320 degree field of vision, that are truly amazing. They can see almost every movement around them, so when it comes to hunting their ability to see the predator far before they can be placed on a Game Sled gurney, is vast.

From vast to fast: The pronghorn is actually known as the second-fastest land mammal in the Western Hemisphere, with cheetahs coming in first. The pronghorn has been known to elude even that high-octane cheetah, however, for the simple fact that they can run far longer.

It is the state of Montana where pronghorns have gained most of their headlines. Here, protection of their habitat and hunting restrictions a century ago helped numbers rise from a mere 13,000 to a half a million+. And even though whitetail numbers are huge, pronghorns are seen on a daily basis, with the highest populations residing in Montana, Wyoming and Colorado.

Hunting is certainly necessary in modern day times for the purpose of population control. And when it comes to pronghorn hunting, they are the species that offer the highest success rate to all big-game hunters.

Pronghorn hunting requires a different set of strategies than the whitetail or the elk. Very difficult sometimes to gain the license, once it’s obtained, hunting the prey can be a bit annoying. A hunter must keep hidden because of the pronghorn’s amazing eyesight. And once danger or warning is given to the pronghorn, they can literally call up that speed and go from 0 to 60 in seconds.

Experts love the thrill of the pronghorn hunt, although they have learned over time that patience is key when it comes to capturing one. A stalk most likely will include an hour or more of crawling through everything from cactus to yucca to worse, only to see the pronghorn get spooked and move like the wind.

Oddly enough, whereas some prey will grow wary of a sudden light or moving object, pronghorns are actually curious creatures when it comes to shiny things, such as a flag catching the sunlight as it flaps in the wind. Just make sure you stay downwind, because the minute your scent is caught the enticing item will not be enough to keep the pronghorn’s interest.

If their attention can be drawn and kept, however, that pronghorn will be on your Game Sled before the day has come to an end.

History Being Sold to the Highest Bidder by Amy Lignor   For the longest time, scientists and archaeologists have been confused and bemused by various discoveries they’ve unearthed that offer little or no explanation as to the who, what, and why of the people who created these things or left them behind. Even now, in 2017, there are discoveries being studied; stories that were once legends now have actual bits of proof being found that … [Read More its Good for You.....]

Can Troy Aikman Win MVP?

Can Troy Aikman Win MVP? by Amy Lignor   What a strange title for an article, aye? Of course the ‘old man’ of the Dallas Cowboys can’t win MVP. Troy Aikman was an elite QB, with three Super Bowl rings to prove that fact. However, Aikman hasn’t actually suited-up since leaving behind his Cowboys uniform in 2001. The number one overall draft pick in 1989, Aikman was the MVP of Super Bowl XXVII, and was elected to the Pro Football … [Read More its Good for You...]
