If your construction project includes curved features, indoors or out, which will require trim work, there is no need to dread finishing these areas. While such popular and attractive touches have been the bane of many builders in the past, creating elegant arches and curves might now be the easiest part of the job.
Lexington, North Carolina-based Flex Trim offers builders an easy-to-install, cost-effective moulding solution that will flex to fit all radius contours and shapes to perfectly trim any part of the project which curves.
Flex Trim’s architectural moulding is made from polyurethane and offers the grain pattern and beauty of wood in a synthetic product that is impervious to water and insects and will not rot, swell or deteriorate over time which makes it an ideal solution for both indoor and outdoor applications.
And they can perfectly match any moulding profile that you are working with. Send them a sample of your wood moulding and they will produce an identical copy of your original, down to the grain detail so that when the flexible moulding is painted or stained and installed it will look exactly like the original wood moulding. This unique capability is particularly valuable for restoration work which must be indistinguishable from the original.
Flex Trim maintains a huge selection of in-stock moulding profiles for immediate shipment and they offer unlimited custom capabilities with the fastest custom order turn around in the industry. In fact, urgent custom orders can usually be shipped within a couple of days.
And with the largest selection of profiles (35,000), of any moulding manufacturer in the world, Flex Trim offers an architectural moulding to meet any need. So no matter what your contour issues are, crown moulding, chair rails, baseboards, window casements or virtually anything else that curves, Flex Trim has you covered with a flexible moulding solution that will be both beautiful and durable.
Flexible moulding costs much less than comparable radius wood millwork and it can be manufactured in far less time with a standard production lead-time of one week or less.
Flex Trim offers its flexible moulding solutions in four material formulations to accommodate every application:
Flex Trim® is their original flexible moulding product. It is a unique polymer resin blend and is the ideal solution for most standard flexible moulding applications. Although less expensive than ZzzzFLEX, Flex Trim exceeds the performance of competitors’ “high end” products.
ZzzzFLEX® is their premium product and is state-of-the-art in flexible moulding technology. No other flexible moulding on the market is stronger, more durable or stains better than ZzzzFLEX. ZzzzFLEX is an elastomer composite developed for the most demanding and complex radius applications. It offers flexibility that is unsurpassed by any other flexible moulding and is the ideal solution for cold weather climates because it is more pliable. Use ZzzzFLEX for small intricate patterns and tight curvatures, or when only the best will do.
Ultra-Flex is a syntactic polyurethane compound with a cellular composition structure similar to wood. One of the main advantages of this material is that it is 40-50% lighter than other flexible mouldings, yet it retains the necessary strength and durability that customers have come to expect. It is an ideal solution for very large moulding profiles. Unlike other flexible moulding materials, Ultra-Flex is pre-primed for superior painting and staining and is back sanded for better glue adhesion. It works great for both interior and exterior applications and has outstanding performance in cold and hot climates.
Carter’s Ultra-Flex compound can be machined with all conventional woodworking machinery and will not dull expensive carbide knives like other flexible products. It can be used with shapers, routers and moulders to avoid the expense of custom tooling and is the ideal solution when only a small amount of STRAIGHT footage is required. Machinable S4S is available in straight lengths only and can be run in any dimension required with the following limitations:
• Maximum of 2 inches thick, 16 inches wide, and 12 feet long.
• Minimum of 1 / 2 inch thick, 1-3/4 inches wide, and 8 feet long
• Stain grade patterns cannot be used because the “grain” is only on the surface.
Founded in 1985, Flex Trim was one of the oldest and largest flexible moulding manufacturers in the U.S. before being acquired in 2008 by Carter Millwork, of Lexington, North Carolina.
Since then Carter has added Provo, Utah-based Flexible Moulding International (in 2009), and Ultra-Flex Moulding of Escondido, California (in 2012). Flexible Moulding International was renamed Flex Trim West and Ultra Flex Moulding was moved from California to the Provo facility as well.
Through these strategic moves and its superior flexible moulding products Carter Millwork has grown to become the largest flexible moulding manufacturer in the world.
A second-generation family-owned business, Carter Millwork/Flex Trim is driven by unparalleled customer service and support and they back all of their flexible moulding products with a lifetime warranty.
