Fitness Can Provide the Confidence We’re Missing

Samantha Lewis

What is the most important reason to get fit? It’s health. Heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, bone and muscle joint pain later in life – all of these can be reduced tenfold with a good fitness plan to get in shape and stay in shape. However…there is another equally important factor that fitness can provide.

Headlines are coming out on almost a weekly basis in regards to people who are taking their own lives because of bullying. They are embarrassed. They have no self-confidence or self-esteem, and the constant bombardment by others about their looks is one of the main causes they see no hope. This is the saddest commentary on our times right now. For any person at any age to give up the rest of his/her future simply because of what someone says and the heartache it causes, is an actual crime.

Does this stop if you get fit? Is self-esteem restored enough? Does this society only run on looks? No, actually, it doesn’t. In essence, getting fit is for you and only you. Having confidence increases motivation, and offers a valuable asset to individuals in all areas of their lives. Work, raising children, living happy, healthy lives – these are the gifts that confidence brings.

It is a truth that getting fit – by taking that first step – confidence comes back. No, not because you’re on the Pilatespath to being ‘model’ beautiful, but because of the fact that you feel better about yourself. You’re energy level increases, and the barbs that are thrown (although they may sting), will not be taken so much to heart – simply because the confidence that was once missing is now growing.

The power of positive thinking, or even faith, can help a person regain or build their self-esteem. But to have time away; time away from the thoughts of others, and the needs of others; to have time outs from the job, the family, school – this is what a fitness center can provide. It is a place that helps you feel better about yourself, and introduces you to a world of other people who can, and want, to help.

The idea of a fitness center is dull in many peoples’ eyes. They are self-taught to feel as if they will be teased or taunted by the ‘hard bodies’ or the ‘beauties’ that are inside. This is dead wrong.

A place called Xist Fitness is gaining a big name in the industry because of the fact that their trainers and their staff have the goal to invest as much time as you do into making you feel better about yourself. Confidence can be shaken, and having a ‘friend’ by your side can make the transformation far easier. You can stay on the right path, even when it gets difficult, by having a person on hand that you can trust implicitly to help you get in shape and restore your confidence. This is the staff at Xist Fitness.

Having a negative view of yourself is not something you’re born with. The negativity comes from the life around you. The negativity from other people that they aim at you can make you feel incompetent, fat, inadequate, unworthy – you name it.

Xist fitAnd, yes, there is far more than a fitness center that can help. There are millions of fit people that still have very large problems with confidence, because their background of teasing and taunting came from something else besides looks. But it will remain that in 2013 – just in high school alone – 44 percent of girls and 15 percent of guys are attempting to lose weight. Over 70 percent of girls age 15 to 17 avoid normal daily activities, such as attending school, simply because they feel bad about their looks. And more than 40 percent of boys in middle school and high school regularly exercise with the goal of increasing muscle mass – simply to fit in.

75 percent of girls with low self-esteem engage in negative activities, and about 20 percent of teens are going to experience depression before they ever reach adulthood – which causes some of them to simply stop themselves from ever seeing adulthood.

There are many areas of life we, as a nation, and a team of mothers and fathers who care about our kids, need to explore to help others who are literally sitting in a depression. And by choosing to head to Xist Fitness – having something else to concentrate on that provides energy, confidence and can build self-esteem, is a step in the right direction.
