In an effort to reduce injuries or fatalities in residential fires, St. Johns County Fire Rescue has initiated a public outreach program which will provide St. Johns County residents with smoke alarms and home safety visits upon request. This service will be provided at no charge in an effort to increase awareness and safety in our community.
Research conducted by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has shown that having working smoke alarms installed correctly in the home greatly reduced the risk of death or injury in residential home fires. The NFPA recommends that smoke alarms be installed on each floor of the home, living areas, inside bedrooms and directly outside all sleeping areas. Once the alarms are installed, NFPA recommends that the alarms are tested monthly and the batteries changed twice a year.
Through this smoke alarm program, SJCFR hopes to educated and promote safety in our community. If you are in need of smoke alarms for your home we ask that you please contact us at (904) 209-0340 or you can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org see if you qualify for the program.
