December in the NFL Will be the Ultimate Wild Card

 by Amy Lignor

Is the NFL showing massive mediocrity this year, or are they actually having a season where everything is just too close to call? Why, exactly, are we heading into December with so many complete unknowns?

We have lists of teams that are still in the hunt for a Wild Card spot. Although the big guns, like the Broncos and the Patriots are basically good to go, there are other teams with very mediocre stats in the win-loss column that still have them able to make a run for the big game. In fact, even the Giants fans whose team began the season 0-6 had a glimmer of hope that Eli Manning’s underdog ways could bring them to the Super Bowl. That, most likely, is not going to happen.

The well-known teams that should have been easy victors this year have fallen. The Pack without their incredible QB seem to be playing flag football. They seem beyond confused without their leader, proving to many that the QB position is the only one that works on the frozen tundra. Unfortunately, Aaron has to be the one in that position in order to make it work.

The 49ers? The ones called at the beginning of the year to win this whole thing fairly easily just to meet either Manning or Brady in the Big Game? Well, after the Seahawks, the Niners have been up and down, as if they’re trying to figure out whether or not they have the stuff they had last year. Or, like the rest of the teams in the NFL, they just can’t understand how the Seattle Seahawks became a big name.

kansas-city-chiefs-wallpaperOne of the valiant victors, however; the one team that rolled along with no losses for a good, long time, are also now falling. The Kansas City Chiefs were 9-0 – even better than the Broncos. Now? Well…they’ve lost three games in a row and went from leaders of their division to a team that’s basically praying the Broncos screw up in December so they can have a Wild Card Spot. In other words, a team that looked as if they could be the new champions and bring a different color scheme to the Super Bowl hats and caps, are now struggling.

Kansas City is also about to get headlines they do not want. Although Miami is the team that’s under massive scrutiny for their ‘Incognito’ bullying situation; yesterday, during the Broncos and Chiefs game – a major game that the Chiefs fans were dying to win – a man was killed in the parking lot of Arrowhead Stadium. Although no one can say as of yet whether this incident, which is being treated as a homicide, began because of sheer anger over football, of all things, the fact remains that a man in his 20’s is dead and his child is now fatherless.

Three people were taken into custody after the altercation, where a man ended up in someone else’s vehicle. Witnesses claimed that there was “an individual who came back to his vehicle, saw someone inside that did not belong, and a struggle ensued between the two. That’s when the individual (who had been inside the vehicle) collapsed,” His boy ran for help when the struggle began.

Yes, there are always headlines during football season but all anyone in Kansas City can hope for is that the struggle was personal and not actually because of a football game that doesn’t account for the taking of a life.

As we move forward in December, the games will be getting more hardcore; the endings will become more strange, most likely, and fans will probably get more upset as they watch their teams fall to clear the way for what will be an interesting Super Bowl.

The experts called most of this wrong, as we all know now. Besides the ever-present presence of the Broncos and the Patriots, who seem to be able to bounce back from a loss immediately and not dwell on them, the rest of the NFL will continue to struggle with sicknesses, injuries, and plain old anger and disappointment that they did not ‘do’ what they planned on ‘doing’ when Week 1 commenced.

Until Next Time, Everybody,

Amy
