A shocking earthquake hit the Haiti causing innumerable casualties. The numbers of casualties exceeded 230,000 and are still increasing. People have lost their loved ones, homes and shelter. It is a big challenge for people and independent organizations to provide relief to the devastated area.
Haiti was already one of the poorest and unstable nations of the world and was suffering from insecurity and violence. The country’s population is around 9.6 million, half of which are below the age of 21 years. Many governmental and private organizations are working hard to support the needy Haitians during this testing time. One of the biggest challenges in the aid and support programs is the challenge of supporting and providing care to many displaced small children who are injured and need urgent medical help or lost their relatives and are in need of support and shelter.
Many independent organizations are trying to ensure the provision of medical aid, food supplies and shelter to the young children and are appealing to the world to participate in their charity programs. Emergency teams in the region are actively working to provide clean water and prevent diseases from spreading but there still is a good amount of work remaining to be done. Many organizations are accepting donations via text messages in United States.
If you want to help the Haitians and specially the small children then you can contribute in providing medical help, clean water, food, children’s clothes, blankets and shelter by donating to the various organizations who are accepting the donations online. Some of the organizations are: UNICEF, Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, World Vision, William J. Clinton Foundation, Feed the Children, Mayor’s Fund for NYC, Habitat for Humanity
UNICEF is specially directing its efforts towards the rehabilitation of children through its Earthquake Children’s Appeal to support children and is committed to safeguard the Children’s rights. Even a small amount of donations means a lot for these innocent citizens of Haiti.
