Dear Commissioner Helhoski,

I am hearing rumors from the people that Hammock Dunes, is a done deal, this is sad not only for Whispering Oaks but also it is going to be to be devastating to Beach Blvd. I have written this before, you cannot buy a Sand Dune or matured Live Oak Tress, this Dune and trees will be gone forever. You have the jewel and all of you are caretakers of this Island, this decision will have an impact on businesses that have been here for years, I think you can see the picture.

In my opinion, today it seems that people will sale their heart and soul for the dollar or is this situation called, greed! I am seventy now so what difference does it make if I am so blunt but I think I am wiser now but always young at heart.

I am sure you know that my family were preservations in the 1800′s and passed that passion especially to my son, Jim. Jim had a vision for all people’s history, he wrote the book and I have to end it.

I thought I could make a difference with this situation but it looks like it was already decided. Some people think it is only for the nine houses that it will impact but they don’t see the whole picture. I will also say this again, we are all getting older but what about the future generations. They will be looking at concrete, stores and traffic. We have to leave this world a better place than we found it.

My heart is heavy tonight but I will somehow keep the fight and passion in my heart. I hope all of you would walk the beach from the new Walkway that the City built it is so peaceful as you walk the curve, see the birds, the dunes and homes but no man can make, the White Sand or the Ocean. When you turn left look at the Pier and start that walk, close your eyes and be blessed, smell the Ocean and breath the air. Then cross over to F/A Cafe and start your walk back until you end up at the Publix Shopping Center, turn around and take a long look at the Green Space and Beach Blvd, I see the trees atop a Dune just think what you will see in the near future, nothing but concrete, dumpster’s, cars and NO GREEN SPACE!

Also I hope you look at the CD I made.

Respectfully,

Libertarian Chairman to Challenge REAL ID in Court Wednesday

September 6, 2011

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA – The State of Florida will be facing a legal challenge to the new driver’s license requirements as mandated by the Department of Homeland Security under the REAL ID Act. Libertarian Party of Florida Chairman and syndicated radio talk host Adrian Wyllie was cited for driving without a license, and will argue that the new DL requirements force citizens to waive their Fourth Amendment rights in order to be granted the “privilege” of driving.

Wyllie surrendered his driver’s license on May 17, 2011, on the grounds that he refused to provide the personal documents required by REAL ID without a warrant. Wyllie then called several law enforcement agencies to report he was driving without a license. Despite his efforts, police ignored the violation.

That was until July 15, when Wyllie issued a challenge to Pinellas County Sheriff Jim Coats on his radio program to “Man up and pull me over.” Within four hours, Wyllie’s vehicle was stopped by Pinellas deputies and he was ticketed.

“This case is a first step in nullifying REAL ID, and determining whether the Fourth Amendment is still applicable in America,” said Wyllie.

One of the components of the REAL ID Act is that States must acquire digital facial image captures which are compatible with facial recognition software, and upload them to a national database. Wyllie says he has subpoenaed the administrator of the PCSO’s facial recognition network, and will dig deep into how driver’s license data is being used for covert surveillance of Floridians. “We will reveal how the new data and facial recognition images collected are being unlawfully used by law enforcement,” said Wyllie.

The Florida legislature is also taking a fresh look at REAL ID. Florida Rep. Larry Ahern (R – St. Petersburg) has introduced HB 109, which would repeal virtually all the provisions of REAL ID that were implemented as part of the driver’s licensing process.

The trial will be held at the Pinellas County Criminal Court Complex, Courtroom 19, at 14250 49th Street North in Clearwater on Wednesday, September 7 at 5:30pm. The courtroom is open to the public and the media.

About Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 400,000 people in theU.S. and over 2.1 million worldwide.

According to Carolyn Smith, St. Augustine Humane Society’s Operations Director, the organization has launched, “Abandoned to Adored”, an ongoing educational exercise that takes participants on the journey of a shelter dog.

Working with the St. Johns County Animal Control Pet Center, an abandoned pet will be tracked from initial intake to being selected, medically rehabilitated, professionally trained, and groomed and pampered as a finishing touch. Then, the pet is sent on a pet supply shopping spree with volunteers before it is placed in a perfectly matched and loving home.

Individuals and families who wish to participate in this adoption program can learn more online and register at http://www.staugustinehumanesociety.org/adoption/abandonedtoadored.html. By submitting the application, participants agree to be interviewed for selection and to have stories and photos released to the media. For more information, call 904.829.2737 or email info@staughumane.org.

“We are honored to have so many volunteers in the community who work with us to implement programs like ‘Abandoned to Adored’. Our thanks goes to the St. Johns County Animal Control Pet Center where someone will adopt a deserving new pet while participating in a fun community activity,” said Smith.

St. Augustine Humane Society is a non-profit organization which promotes
responsible pet ownership and strengthens the human-animal bond through
education and training. The organization works to reduce the relinquishment
rate of pets to shelters through effective and affordable spay and neuter
efforts and is a resource center for the citizens and animals in St. Johns
County, Florida. Programs are made possible in part by generous funding from
patrons, the Ted Weber Trust, and program activities. The facility is
located at 1665 Moultrie Road in St. Augustine, Fla. Business hours are
Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am until 4 pm, and Sunday from 1 pm until
4 pm. Closed Monday. For more information call 904-829-2737 or visit the
The plight of the sea turtle is precarious, since nesting females could abandon a nest site before laying her eggs and hatchlings instinctively head toward the beckoning flashlights of curious onlookers rather than heading for the safety of the ocean.

The newly created Turtlesafe™ personal rechargeable flashlight has red LED’s and has been tested and certified* by the ‘Imperiled Species Management Section of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission’. The light output from the red LED flashlight indicates no short wavelengths of light that are disruptive to sea turtles. The Turtlesafe™ rechargeable flashlight meets or exceeds current Barrier Island lighting ordinances and is ‘certified*’ Turtle safe.

Designed by Mr. Mason Stewart, the rechargeable flashlight provides enough ‘peoplesafe’ light to be used on beaches at night, but emits a certified ‘turtlesafe™’ light beam that doesn’t disturb nesting sea turtles or their hatchlings. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Stewart spent his early years exploring the miles of saltwater marshes, dense forests and fast flowing tidal streams. Visiting the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island, he learned of the potentially serious problems traditional flashlights cause nesting sea turtles. The new flashlight may improve young turtle’s chances of safely leaving the beach and finding the ocean.

On April 28, 2011, Dr. Robert Okerblom of Santa Maria, Calif., is scheduled to pedal into St. Augustine as he approaches the final leg of a 3,000-mile public awareness campaign. He began his cross-country, solo bicycle trek from San Diego, Calif., Feb. 28 in hopes of raising public awareness of the dangers of distracted driving, particularly texting while driving. Okerblom, a family practitioner in Orcutt, Calif., also hopes the ride will help him regain inner peace after the tragic death of his own son at the hand of a distracted driver. Eric, 19, was on a training ride when he was hit and killed by a distracted driver.

The story of Eric Okerblom’s tragic death at the hand of a texting young driver is now featured on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s websites including the front page of Distraction.gov: http://www.distraction.gov/. He also has his own page on the website: http://www.distraction.gov/faces/eric-okerblom.html. Secretary LaHood featured the story on his Fast Lane blog this morning, and the DOT has also issued its own national release on the issue of distracted driving. And, finally, there is a link to download Eric’s video for use offline: https://dotmediacenter.onehub.com/d/e7fy/

Dr. Okerblom may speak at area schools or other organizations while he’s in town. Please contact him directly to catch up with the constantly evolving speaking schedule, photos while on the road and to arrange your own interview. Okerblom is carrying a cell phone and can be reached when he’s off pedals. His number is 805-705-3103.
FAST FACTS (from TurnOffTexting.com):

> Using a hand-held cell phone increases the likelihood of a collision by four times, equal to the risk of drunken driving.

> Texting increases the risk by 23 times (5.7 times greater than drunk driving).

> The average young driver texts about 70 times per day. 90% of teenagers admit to texting while driving.

> Most teenagers mistakenly believe that texting while driving is safer than drunk driving.

> Many states refuse to regulate hand held devices while driving, weakly enforce regulations, or have trivial penalties for violations. Automobile makers, cell phone producers and service providers minimize the risk of the devices they provide. About 7 percent of California drivers are using a hand held phone at any given time.

> More Americans die annually (about 6,000) from cell phone distraction than have been killed in both the combined Iraq and Afghan Wars.

Hardworking people that are working for the people try to cut cost anyway that they can to help decrease America`s budget deficit and create jobs for Americans. Trade Ambassador Philip Kapneck has helped to create jobs for more than 30 years and has attracted business and industry to Maryland while working many years, without remuneration.

Ambassador Kapneck was first appointed by Governor Marvin Mandel to open Maryland`s first overseas office in Brussels, Belgium as the State`s Trade Ambassador. Ambassador Kapneck has been appointed by each administration to date since his first appointment to Belgium. He assisted the Federal Government in “Invest in the USA”. Ambassador Kapneck works tirelessly for the people of Maryland, creating jobs by bringing companies to Maryland that are unique and useful, and that need a quality workforce.

Ambassador Kapneck has introduced many companies to Maryland by helping these companies get established in the State of Maryland. Once they are established he continues to assist them in contacting other business operations which in turn makes the new companies a valuable part of the state economy and in turn, this helps to reduce unemployment numbers.

Ambassador Philip Kapneck is the true meaning of the inaugural speech once given by President John F. Kennedy. “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.”

A State Official said that Ambassador Kapneck is not looking for publicity or public recognition for his work; he just wants to help people.

In honor of Spay Day, the St. Augustine Humane Society is offering a special discount on spaying and neutering cats. The promotion is held in conjunction with the annual campaign of The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International to inspire people to save animal lives by spaying or neutering pets and feral cats.

The official 17th annual Spay Day takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011. The special is valid for the Spay Shuttle which is scheduled for March 17, 2011. The shuttle is used to transport pets to a veterinary clinic in Jacksonville that partners with the St. Augustine Humane Society to offer the low cost services. Supply is limited.

The St. Augustine Humane Society is offering a reduced rate of $30 for cats for its spay or neuter service through the organization’s Spay Shuttle. The regular rate is $50. This special is being offered for cats because of the feline’s ability to reproduce quickly. The cost does not include fees for additional services like rabies vaccines.

According to local veterinarian and St. Augustine Humane Society board president, Dr. Eric Searcy, female cats start going into “heat” or estrus as early as four to six months of age. They are repeatedly receptive to the male for weeks during each cycle, which greatly increases the chances of pregnancy. Female cats can have three or four litters in a year, and at one to six kittens per litter, cats can reproduce quickly. Dr. Searcy added, “Unfortunately, only one out of every 12 cats born ever find a permanent home.”

“By providing low cost spay and neuter services, we are preventing many animals from being taken to shelters or euthanized,” said Celeste Hart, St. Augustine Humane Society’s Executive Director. “We are addressing the pet overpopulation problem by focusing on prevention and working to eliminate the need to euthanize thousands of companion animals in St. Johns County,” she said.

To make reservations for the Shuttle please visit the Humane Society during its regular business hours Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9:00 am until 2:00 pm and by appointment. For more information please call 904-829-2737 or visit the website at www.staugustinehumanesociety.org. To donate and volunteer, contact Celeste Hart at (904) 829-2737 or email chart@staughumane.org.

St. Augustine Humane Society is a non-profit organization which promotes responsible pet ownership and strengthens the human-animal bond through education and training. The organization works to reduce the relinquishment rate of pets to shelters through effective and affordable spay and neuter efforts and is a resource center for the citizens and animals in St. Johns County, Florida. Programs are made possible in part by generous funding from patrons, the Ted Weber Trust, and program activities.

“In her new book “Addict Nation,” TV host Jane Velez-Mitchell explores America’s love affair with prescription drugs, and asks: Is Lindsay Lohan REALLY sober?

The list of celebrities who have overdosed on legal prescription drugs is long and growing fast. Music legend Michael Jackson died after his doctor gave him a head-spinning cocktail of drugs including Valium, Lorazepam, and Midazolam, plus the painkiller Lidocane, topped off with Propofol. Health Ledger OD’d in his fashionable Manhattan loft on a combination of Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Diazepam, Alprazolam, Temazepam, Vicodin, Xanax , Restoril and Unisom. Anna Nicole Smith’s autopsy revealed Lexapro, Zoloft, Cipro, Klonopin, Valium, Lorazepam, Ativan, Robaxin and the powerful sleep aid Chloral Hydrate in her system. Now, many fear Lindsay Lohan may join the list.”

Judyth Piazza and Jane Velez-Mitchell will cover these topics and many more on The American Perspective. Stay Tuned!
