Breaking News: The Super Bowl Defending New York Giants ARE Still Alive!

Yes…they still exist. Many will assume that it was the Thanksgiving meal held at the ‘Manning’ residence where Peyton sat down beside his brother and either spoke to him about what’s going wrong or gave him a supply of oxygen to get him back on his feet, that was the catalyst for last night’s win over the Pack– but they would be wrong. It was a boy, in fact, that made the New York Giants appear and prove to the world that they ARE still the ‘Super Bowl Champion New York Giants’ – a team that many assumed was MIA.

One of the nicest stories in the world circulating out there is all about how a true fan of the Giants put in a request and was granted his wish by a Giants offense that couldn’t seem to stop last night. AND by a Giants defense, that was able to be there all the time in the QB’s face and get interceptions that led to the glorious TDs that helped to produce a final score of 38-10.

It is a young man by the name of Adam Merchant – a HUGE Giants fan – that was granted his wish by the team and wore a grin from one ear to the other as reporters flocked to him in order to get his take on the win that was SO needed in the Giants world. This 15-year-old miracle worker lives in Vermont. Eight months ago he was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma, and his family took a trip to New York this Thanksgiving because of the fantastic work of the “Make-A-Wish Foundation.” Adam’s passion is football and his greatest wish was to see his absolute favorite team play. And the Giants were NOT going to let this kid down!

He attended team practice last week and, after it ended, Adam apparently spoke with the entire team on the field and said: “Play Like World Champions.” For a team that was coming off two straight losses, it seems that all the Giants needed was to be reminded that they ARE the defending champions. They ARE the team that others have wanted to be a part of for a good, long time. They DO have the QB who, when he’s on, IS better than his brother. (Sorry Broncos fans, but its true). And they ARE the team with one of the best defenses in history – when they’re at their absolute best. Well…apparently after this brave young man reminded the Giants of all these facts, their ‘champion’ souls returned to their bodies and wiped out Green Bay without breaking a sweat.

After losses to Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, and watching their competitors – the Redskins – win two in a row in order to challenge the Giants for the ‘top spot,’ Eli Manning’s arm went from being ‘tired’ to the Bionic Man’s arm, as he threw over and over again for 249 yards and three TDs. Not only did he make his young fan happy, but Eli also passed Phil Simms and became the Giants’ all-time record holder for passing touchdowns.

But it wasn’t just Manning out there who looked like he had gone under the knife and installed bionic parts – it was the running backs who came away with almost 150 yards (their highest total since their win against the Niners back in October). Apparently, the champion defense had some sleep and relaxation during the bye week, as well. Coming out on that field they looked like a team that had lost twenty years, but not the skill and professionalism that they’ve learned in those twenty years. They were smiling as they were concentrating. They were reenergized and rejuvenated and took that out on poor Aaron Rodgers – the Green Bay QB – by sacking him five times and basically making him wish that he’d stayed home and enjoyed Thanksgiving leftovers instead of taking to the field.

In addition, Eli Manning suddenly took on the spirit of Steve Young. When facing a third down and needing seven yards in order to continue, Eli actually took the ball and scrambled. And he didn’t slide, by the way; he pushed forward and made sure to secure that first down.

The Giants team members who spoke with reporters were beyond passionate about what they’d done during the game. Again, it seemed like they had just won the Rose Bowl and had their entire futures ahead of them in the NFL. Well…perhaps they do. Perhaps they are gearing up to remind everyone that they ARE those Super Bowl Champions who have as much hope and determination as they’ve ever had, and CAN head to the big game yet again if other teams who are playing well continue to get cocky.

The young Adam is headed back home today, but every Giants fan out there should be extremely thankful to the boy. His spirit seemed to infuse his favorite team with life that they were seriously missing. The Giants have woken up from their dormant state and Adam Merchant deserves a huge fruit basket from the city of New York, not to mention, everyone’s prayers!
