Basketball Pros’ Initiative for Active Military Families and Vets

Basketball professionals are stepping forward in support of military personnel and their families through a new initiative.

The Professional Basketball Alumni Association (PBAA) and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), along with several players will announce their participation in a series of exhibition basketball games, camps and clinics to be played jointly with military personnel as part of an initiative to provide low cost / no cost quality entertainment for Service Members and their Families. The code name for this initiative is called “Kings of the Game” and their announcement will be made during theNBA All Star Weekend in Orlando.

These exhibition basketball events are coordinated by MISSION ONE VOICE (MOV), a collaborative venture between the Center for American Military Music Opportunities(C*A*M*M*O), Lerer Media and the Professional Basketball Alumni Association.
The “Kings of the Game” initiative will consist of professional players and service members from all branches of the United States Armed Forces and will be held at various military installations and select venues across the country.  Each exhibition team will consist of both professional players and military players competing against other exhibition teams.  Military players may be either enlisted service men or veterans.

These exhibition games are scheduled to be held at military installations.  Military personnel, both active and retired, along with their families will be provided with complimentary tickets.  A complete schedule will be announced in the near future.

“There is NO better way to pay tribute to our service members for their sacrifice and commitment to our country,” stated NBPA Executive Director G. William Hunter. “We look forward to this joint effort and welcome the opportunity to show our troops and their families how much we appreciate them.”

“Our Professional Basketball Alumni are already looking forward to become teammates with our Nation’s greatest teams of all time, the military.  It will be an honor to interact with our service members and their families in exhibition basketball games, clinics, and summer programs,” said PBAA Chief Executive Officer, Charles D. Smith.

Cathie Lechareas, Executive Director of C*A*M*M*O added, “Our goal is to provide low cost to no cost quality entertainment for Service Members, their Families and Veterans. With this new relationship I know we are well on our way to complete a portion of our mission. I look forward to our joint effort with PBAA and the NBPA for ourMission One Voice initiative.”

“We really appreciate our supporters, the NBPA and the players for coming out to support MOV,” said Alycia Lerer, Executive Director of Lerer Media. “These historic events will benefit Mission One Voice‘s efforts to bring opportunities and quality entertainment to our service members and their families.  We are especially grateful to many organizations including the Professional basketball Players Alumni Association and the National Basketball Players Association for their assistance in completing our mission.”
