A ‘Team’ That Rocks…In More Ways Than One!

A ‘Team’ That Rocks…In More Ways Than One!

No, I am not about to head into a story of the Olympic Games, or some team that won a new medal this weekend. This is an article dedicated to something that we haven’t seen much of lately in the music industry. (Frankly, we haven’t seen it in any industry). I’m talking about integrity.

There is a band that has just crossed my path that I am THRILLED beyond belief to share with all the fans out there. This collaborative group stands for everything that we need to stand for – respect, diversity, integrity and, oh yes, talent. In fact, this team is responsible for creating music that absolutely imprints on your mind and changes the way you look at things.

The name of this incredible group is Randomly Selected. And for the first time ever I can not ‘categorize’ them. Randomly Selected is not all about gospel, hip hop, rap, pop, R&B, easy listening, rock, etcetera; their music is actually loved by listeners who hold any or all of the above categories as their absolute favorites. Like the perfect writer – think everyone from Jane Austen to Stephen King – Randomly Selected tells a story with each one of their songs, and from the music to the melody to the words voiced – every single facet is merged together to form the BEST band out there. And, thankfully for us, their debut album, Issues, is coming out soon and hearts, minds, souls and, of course, ears are going to be reveling in what Randomly Selected brings to the table.

But…there’s more. I know that there are bands out there you love to listen to, and there ALL ages of true and utter die-hard fans for everyone from Bieber to Bon Jovi (depending on genre and level of arthritis you suffer from now that Jon Bon Jovi has entered into the AARP magazine J.)  But with each and every member of the Randomly Selected team, not only do all ages get the music they love and want to listen to, but each member is also one of ‘us,’ with their own stories of struggle and success. They also had to recently face a ridiculous premise that the music industry offered them so they could gain instant superstardom.

First, introductions are an absolute must when speaking about these incredible artists/musicians that are on their way to becoming one of the most recognized names in the industry. The band’s name, Randomly Selected, truly fits, because each of the talented artists are from varied cultures and backgrounds. The one thing they have in common? Passion – an incredible passion for music that can be heard in every beat, pop and whisper they put forth in their unforgettable songs. As you are introduced to these brilliant men and woman, you will see that they are indeed a part of ‘us,’ the ones who struggle and fight every day in order to make a better world for our families and friends.

Rapper/Producer Ric Dubb (born, Richard Woods) comes from Homer, Louisiana and dedicates his time to taking care of his children and embracing his music. Like the rest of us, he is certainly no stranger to struggle. Songwriter/Vocalist, Kali McWethy comes from Shreveport, Louisiana. Kali is a make-up artist and is also struggling to make ends meet. Vocalist/Producer, AO (born, Aaron Oliver) hails from Gilbert, Louisiana and works daily to keep that proverbial roof over his head. Triple threat – Rapper/Musician/Producer, Phyrebeatz (born, Andrew Conley) is from Bossier City, Louisiana and, like the others, struggles with finances while working with abused, neglected and mentally challenged youth. Last but not least comes Vocalist/Producer, JD Greer of Manteca, California. JD is a husband and father of four trying to support his family. Exactly! Randomly Selected members are ‘us’ – struggling people who are trying to make ends meet and working toward a dream.

Now here is the unfamiliar aspect of Randomly Selected when it comes to what we all think about ‘superstars’ and the fame, fortune and glory of the music industry. Randomly Selected was recently approached by a major label and was offered a contract. Yay! Right? But you see, this instant money and instant fame ‘package’ came with a price. That price was the fact that they would have to have a ‘staged argument’ with two well known music celebrities. Why is that, you ask? Come on! This has become the world where negative press and tabloid ridiculousness CAN award instant fame. By involving oneself in something so menial and classless that you end up on the covers of all magazines getting publicity of the very worst kind, you can achieve instant recognition. This way, the label doesn’t have to waste all that time and money doing their jobs and promoting the band in the correct way. I’ll tell you…after you hear Randomly Selected you will see that they can be artfully and successfully promoted based on talent alone – no gimmicks are necessary to bring this band to the top of the charts.

Quick and easy promotion has become almost vile and, unfortunately, the ‘norm.’ In fact, the only shock value left is the fact that none of the media onslaughts is a shock anymore.

All five members of Randomly Selected, by the way, refused immediately and without regret when this particular offer was placed before them. In other words, the corruption of the industry was not something that could sway these talented individuals to go against their principles just for the quick buck. Talented with integrity – that sure is a pleasing change!

Issues, their debut album soon to be released, needs no negative promotion, believe me. The music, the vocals, the stories of real life issues that are presented in this passionate and thrilling collaboration of songs is incredible.

There is also one more person who is highly involved in this team – the integrity behind the scenes, so to speak. Industry veteran, Casey Caouette, was the one who had this ‘dream project‘ of putting together a band that was all about being positive and at the same time being unstoppable. Not only did Casey select these artists for their unmatched talent but also for the genuinely dedicated and ‘real’ people they are. It will come as no surprise that Casey is the one behind the project, seeing as that she is one industry executive that has built a career and personal life on integrity and unwavering faith. (Which is as rare a scene in the music industry as shirts are on Jacob the ‘werewolf’ in the Twilight films).

From Casey to the Randomly Selected members, working hard, doing well, taking no shortcuts and releasing the best music that can be heard in 2012 is the key to their wonderful business relationship.

In fact, after hearing the complete and utter defiance of that music label’s offer from the Randomly Selected members, Casey responded like the ‘proud momma bear’ of her team, saying: “To say that I am proud of my team is such an understatement; it was such an unfair position for them to have been placed. They stood firm in all that is right. I have never, and probably will never again, work with such a diverse group that are all so alike in the greatness within each and every one of their souls. I consider each of them my friend and a part of my family for life!”

Issues will bring real talent and real music back to the mainstream industry, because this group is most assuredly dedicated to making positive changes in the world by creating music that touches the souls of all people out there who have been aching for music to be made the way it used to be.

Fans, jump on board with me for this wild ride, because Randomly Selected will soon be the name on your lips as you jockey to get those coveted tickets to their very first concert tour!

Until Next Time, Everybody!

We Are Still…All in This Together!

We Are Still…All in This Together! by Amy Lignor   December 7, 1941. Sunday morning was lovely on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. A typical Sunday, in fact, where people were moving calmly and in a relaxed “weekend-mode” stance at the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet Headquarters. Just before the clocks struck 8:00 a.m., however, the country of Japan launched planes from six aircraft carriers in what would be considered the “first wave” of … [Read More its Good for You...]
